The Upper North Farming Systems group is a dedicated bunch of farmers keen to improve their farming practises. Each year they hold an expo, where they have guest speakers in the morning, and then visit trial plots in the afternoon. I had the pleasure of presenting to them about pulse grain marketing. It was a great line up of speakers, with about 80 -100 people in the crowd. Rabobank provided a great lunch, with flinders machinery rolling in with a bucketload of farmers union ice coffee.

Felt very privileged to show some of our Chinese end users some Hindmarsh and Latrobe barley crops in the Booleroo area.

The boys from Beijing were very enthusiastic and enjoyed the upper north landscape and views.

It's been a while since my last post. Wheat and barley have been nothing short of a crawl. All I can say is thank god for pulses. Lentils have been red hot, with some solid forward prices for those that are game. Peas have been on fire, and beans have been great but have reached the end of the road.

In south Australia, good but patchy rains across the state in March have set up early moisture profiles, and put a level of confidence on the table

Welcome to 2016. The festive season is now done, and holidays still on the cards. Even though the harvest is just complete, most people have some of their crop to sell. In addition, grain marketing for 2016 starts now.
Deciding a crop plan and developing a forecast production plan allows attractive forward prices to be taken advantage of

Harvest is rapidly coming to an end. Wheat is experiencing a slide down at the moment. Hot spots are malt barley, lentils, beans, peas and kabulis, while H1 wheat and Canola are holding up to some degree. AUW1 and AGP are also in reassonable demand.
Forward contracts shoud be close to being completed, with the emphasis on correct grade matching. There are also opportunities within port zones. Thevanard was hot last week, while Wallaroo is currently the hot spot.

Harvest is now well under way. Quality is certainly a mixed bag across wheat, barley, lentils and peas - so far. Have we seen such a broad range of qualities in one year?
