On this International Women's Day 2024 it’s a time to celebrate all women who contribute to society – mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts and grandmothers who walk beside us to create a better world. We all start life as ordinary people, but it is what we do that makes us extraordinary.
I take this opportunity to reflect upon and recognise four beautiful female friends in my life who are achieving the extraordinary to create extraordinary outcomes.
Kerry-anne Konstantinou driving excellence in HR management, to create a workplace of choice.
Professor Helen OConnell AO, Australia’s first female urologist and a trailblazing woman driving better outcomes for women’s health.
Sandra Klepetko, passionate about creating a better environment. Through her love of music is the backbone of the Pianos Recycled enterprise breathing new life into old pianos past their time and recreating magic with them.
Kirsty Brady, an education professional who creates a joy of the most basic of flowers, even flowers past their prime, with her enterprise, Flower Joy.
I have many female friends who started life as ordinary people and remain humble, ordinary people, but with a passion to create extraordinary outcomes, they are all extraordinary women.
And to finish, I applaud and give thanks to an extraordinary woman who shaped my life to think big and excel - Irene Maskell, a woman who guided my Year 11 and 12 years as the school’s senior mistress. She had the ability to recognize that special quality in each of her students and drove the best outcomes in each of us. She gave me the confidence to drive my big ideas, stand tall, look at the horizon and fly to my destination with confidence and achieve my goals.
