When the right people see your work, things start to shift.

Like most trade businesses, A1 perfection plasterers 's early growth was built on referrals, relationships and reputation. A solid foundation, but not a scalable one.

The focus shifted towards building something more consistent and predictable. Getting their work in front of better builders, stronger projects and higher-end opportunities across Melbourne.

The results have followed. More consistent enquiries, a stronger brand presence and a growing reputation in the plastering space.

Working directly with clients is a big part of how we operate.

A lot of the value comes from conversations. Understanding how the business runs, where it’s trying to get to, and what’s really holding it back.

That’s where the best ideas usually come from.

Everyone’s talking about AI at the moment, but relationships, trust and understanding people properly is one thing it won’t replace.

That’s what everything else is built on.

Good to see how far True Line Cladding has come over the time we’ve worked together.

What started as a smaller operation has grown into a seriously well-established business delivering large projects across Melbourne, backed by a solid team, strong systems, and in-house CNC capability.

Our focus has been building out the brand alongside that growth - capturing the work properly, showcasing the team and helping position the business for the next stage.

Since partnering together, the business has doubled in size, which is a credit to James, the team, the work they deliver.

Plenty more to come.

A lot of the construction companies we work with have grown off referrals.

And to be fair, it’s usually a good sign. It means the work is strong, clients trust you, and people are willing to pass your name on.

We’ve experienced the same at We Build Tradies. Most of our growth over the past 6 years has come through referrals.

Where it becomes challenging - and we’ve seen this both in our own business and across clients - is when it becomes the only source of work.

Referrals are unpredictable. They come when they come, and they can slow down without much warning.
When work is inconsistent, it’s difficult to build any real structure around the business.

Planning becomes harder. Hiring becomes risky. And you often end up taking whatever comes through, rather than being selective.

This is usually the point where something needs to change. Referrals should support the business, not carry it.

The goal isn’t to replace them, but to build a more consistent system around them so they become a bonus, not something you rely on.

A big part of what we do at We Build Tradies is help construction companies with recruitment.

It’s something we don’t always talk about, but it comes up in almost every conversation.

It’s bloody hard to find good people - apprentices, qualified guys, office staff.

And the reality is, it’s not just about putting up a job ad and hoping for the best.

A lot of it comes down to how the business is positioned and what people see before they even reach out.

That’s where we spend a lot of time at We Build Tradies.

Not just helping our clients win more work - but helping them attract the right people into the business.
