are a little conflicting, aren’t they? 🤨
There seems to be so many rules on how many and when and where to use them 🤯
But, as a general outline - we do know that a hashtag is used in a social media post to help those who may be interested in your topic to be able to find it when they search for a particular hashtag. Hashtags help to draw attention to your posts and encourage interaction.
Here’s a quick overview:
#️⃣They always start with # but they won’t work if you use spaces, punctuation, or symbols.
#️⃣Make sure your accounts are public. Otherwise, the ‘hashtagged’ content you write won’t be seen by any non-followers. We want your posts to be seen by as many as possible (target towards your target market of course).
#️⃣Don’t string too many words together. The best hashtags tend to be relatively short and easy to remember. Sure, make them quirky but make sure they’re appropriate to your product or business.
#️⃣Use relevant and specific hashtags. If it is too obscure, it will be hard to find and it won’t likely be used by other social media users. Keep them relevant to your product & customers.
#️⃣Limit the number of hashtags you use. More isn’t always better. It actually looks spammy. Again, this one can be tricky – generally it’s suggested on Instagram to only use 3-5 hashtags per post. If you’d like to add more, sometimes it’s suggested to post your hashtags as the first comment. On Facebook, 2-3 is the suggested number. The main point is to just stay true to your brand and don't over do it!
When we work with you on a social strategy and content plan we implement hashtags relevant to each post to ensure we're gaining the best exposure and reach.
