The Commute The Commute is a pocket-sized agency in Frankston, VIC and Balclutha, NZ with a whole lot of heart.

Hoses at the ready! 🚒

A lot happens between having an idea and pressing record on shoot day.

Beforehand, we’re researching, planning, scripting, scouting locations, coordinating talent, wrangling timelines and making sure everyone knows where they need to be and when.

Once we’re on set, we’re directors, producers, photographers, drone pilots, lighting crew, sound crew and professional problem-solvers.

Missing prop? We’ll make it work.
Weather changed? We’ll pivot.
Microphone having a tantrum? We’re already fixing it.

Then it’s back to the studio for editing, colour grading, audio mixing, music, graphics, captions and all the fiddly little details that bring everything together.

Somewhere in between, we’re also answering emails, managing projects, building websites and brands, sending invoices and occasionally remembering that lunch exists.

There’s a lot more to it than pressing record, and honestly, that’s exactly how we like it. 🙃❤️

Oh, hey! 👋

We’ve been busy the past couple of weeks moving into our new warehouse at CLIK Collective in Moorabbin. Already, some themes seem to be coming through in the fit-out. ☺️

Our new space (affectionately known as ‘The Shed’) is 27m² of unapologetically anti-corporate, cosy-core goodness.

Less big light, more lamps. Less office, more stuff we actually want to be surrounded by. Unserious, unpolished and with just the right amount of room for creativity.

Just outside the studio, we’ve also now got access content studios, meeting rooms and ample opportunities to make friends and feel a little less isolated when we come to work.

We’ve still got a few pictures to hang and cables to tidy, but we’re loving our new home. 🥰

Can’t wait to have you by for a cup of in-house roasted Lime Blue Coffee and a round of Mario Kart. ☕️🏎️

📍 New location, same chaos.

We're already knee-deep in moving The Commute over to CLIK Collective in Moorabbin! The desks are here, the carpet tiles are laid and Nick's cackle can officially be heard from the other side of the first floor. 📦📢

The big furniture arrives on Friday, and we couldn't be more excited to get properly settled in.

A HUGE thank you to Nick's husband Nick and his dad Greg, Georgia from Disco Techs, and of course Abbie and Brad from MINTY Greenhouse - botanical living for giving up part of their weekend to help us get partially migrated. Absolute legends. 🫶

There'll be no face-to-face catch-ups this week while we finish the move, but from next week you'll be able to find us at:

Can’t believe how fast a year can fly by!

Thanks for being such an incredible wing-lady for The Commute, Soph. For keeping me humble through my complete lack of Gen Z knowledge, always going the extra mile and bringing plenty of tee hees along the way.

It’s been so awesome watching you take every new challenge in your stride over the past year, I’m incredibly grateful for everything you bring to our little team.

For those who are new here, we're long-time supporters of the legends at Minus18. 🌈

Every month, we donate a portion of every sale, big and small, to help them continue the incredible work they do supporting LGBTQIA+ young people across Australia.
It's one small thing we can do, but over the years it adds up.

Alongside our support of Minus18, we've also donated funds, discounted work and resources to a wide range of community partners across Australia and New Zealand. Altogether, those efforts have now contributed more than $45,000. Not bad for a pocket-sized agency and a bunch of bloody awesome clients. ❤️

Over the past year, we've watched plenty of larger businesses quietly step back from donating to and supporting LGBTQIA+ organisations in the same way they once did. Whether that's changing priorities or playing it safe, organisations like Minus18 still need businesses and individuals to show up.

If you have the capacity, we'd love to encourage you to support Minus18 (especially with Wear It Purple Day just around the corner on 28 August 💜) or another community group that means something to you. Every donation, partnership or act of support helps keep these organisations doing the work that matters.

How much Gen Z slang do Millennials actually know? 👀

We spend our days online creating content, scrolling social media and keeping up with trends... but every now and then the internet reminds us we're not 19 anymore. 💀

Soph put Nick through a Gen Z quiz featuring internet slang, TikTok trends, Disney references and a few absolutely unhinged questions from the depths of the internet.

Some answers were surprisingly solid.
Some were... not.

Somehow, the Hannah Montana impression may have been the biggest win of the whole quiz.

Big news... We're moving! 🚚📦

After a delightful three years in our Cheltenham space, we're heading just around the corner to CLIK Collective at Morris Moor in Moorabbin. 🏘️

We're aiming to be completely moved in by the end of August.

A huge thank you to everyone who has visited our Cheltenham studio over the years. 🫶
