R-Co Thinking Creative: Honga's Kimchi

The authenticity of a smile.

Today’s audience demand more than the superficial.

A deeper connection, a familiarity based on authenticity and a belief that this brand is one that cares.

Honga’s family restaurant chain in Korea features KimChi, the traditional Korean food consisting of salted and fermented vegetables.

Her philosophy is “Nothing in life has meaning, except the meaning we choose to give it”.

Honga wanted the brand identity to have a clear meaning. We chose to use a smiling portrait of herself to express the authentic goodness of the product and the welcoming restaurant experience.

And the care with which everything is created.

That is Honga's purpose, her “why" and her business mission, encapsulated by R-Co in an identity of distinction with style.

R-Co Tales from the Boardroom: EMV

Shaping the future with identity design.

The role of Emergency Management Victoria is to work with communities, agencies, business and Government so that communities can withstand, respond to and recover from emergencies.

The branding project identified four goals for a sustainable emergency management organisation -
- Better use of state investment
- A network that can achieve more when connected together
- An organisation that supports the community to be more resistant

Through the R-Co brand process of inclusive interviews and discovery of insights with Government, community and agencies, cohesion was built because the collective purpose of “unified and sustainable emergency management leadership“ was articulated as the mission. In this way, the brand process helped shape the future.

The benefits of unfolding the relevant aims of Government agencies and aligning them to "who are we and what problem do we solve” synergy, unlocks immense value.

The identity design expresses a sense of integrated capability and control. The disciplined edges of the ribbon can be interpreted as the three core pillars of emergency management – Before, During and After – delivering knowledge, response and restoration.

R-Co Thinking Creative: Rapid Internet

Life in the internet.

Many of us cannot imagine our lives without the internet.

It has revolutionised communications and allowed us to access the world with a click or two and be connected within minutes.

This impact of technology on the way we communicate is immersive, people use mobile devices to stay on line all the time. We now use a new language of image, word and sound in compositions only possible through digital technology.

In this noisy landscape, how the brand transforms from a fixed impression into a moving image is unlimited. However, emotional connection is limited to how the brain receives the message. 50% of the brain is used for visual processing, 70% of sensory receptors are in the eyes. And it only takes 1/10 of a second to understand a visual scene.

It was with this background that the identity for Rapid Internet was developed. Connecting the name and the image within a succinct statement. Establishing a brand identity design and tone of voice that emotionally conveyed the desired message … that this is a super fast internet at your finger tips.

R-Co Tales from the Boardroom: Cirka

Putting identity at the centre of the solution.

There are three types of brand projects -

Create brand - a new purpose in the world

Renew brand - a new personality or customer experience

Rethink brand - a new proposition or role in people's lives

For City Central Group, a commercial cleaning company, the brand strategy involved “Rethinking" the brand and the proposition. They wanted to move from a problem solving "cleaning and property maintenance" reputation into a ”whatever the challenge, we are part of the solution” aspiration.

By rethinking the company name, they were able to position themselves for success with a new story and new brand identity. The name “Cirka” was created to reflect the proposition that Cirka is at the centre of the solution.

Cirka is not intended to have a direct meaning, rather it is suggestive of unending loops, full turns and 360° revolutions. It references all things central, centric and at the core of the success of the company. And with the rethinking of the original brand, a new cycle of success has begun.

R-Co Thinking Creative: Dsmile

The power of sensory product design.

We love working with industrial and product designers at R-Co. It’s always amazing playing a part in bringing a new concept to market.

R-Co was the Brand Creative Directors of this tooth brush initiative by dentist Dr Joseph Bardr. We engaged with industrial designer Paul Charlwood of Charlwood Design who was the project designer. From an idea, through design process to finished product, this project was driven by innovation and attention to beauty in the details.

The value of design is expressed in every aspect of the product. It responds to the way the design team wanted the audience to feel, because from his dental experience Dr Joseph Badr understood how the customer felt.

Dsmile is a genius product, created with professional consideration of its dental hygiene benefits. R-Co worked with Dsmile’s graphic designer Michelle Mackintosh, who designed the identity, as she crafted the brand's tone of voice.

A 100% Australian design input, it is unique in its conception, engaging brand idea, and compelling for its sensory design.

Is the power of your product understood by your audience? We’re the experts in information design. Say hello, we’re here to help.

R-Co Tales from the Boardroom: Canberra Metro

Moving without speaking.

At R-Co we focus on creating design for humans. Design that supports them in achieving their goals in less time, with less stress and less confusion.

This contributes to social well-being and community enhancement with a Capital Value increase in local reputation.

The key to good wayfinding is understanding human behaviour and how people collectively move through spaces. If we can understand and integrate the senses into communication output, we’re able to move people without speaking.

Understanding what drives an individual, enables the rewarding ability for design of signage to transport them; or rather empower them, to transport themselves.

In 2019, R-Co undertook this project for Canberra Metro, collaborating with Architects and crafting a signage/way finding system to support the new railway. This project allowed our team to get involved in the broader strategy of the railway, and participate in making its benefits accessible to the public.

R-Co Inspiring Melbourne: Melbourne Football Club

Every heart beats true.

At R-Co we are avid Melbourne supporters. After years of nurturing our relationships with the MCG and AFL, we naturally built a report with the Club.

There is something amazing about watching the brand timeline.

Design is the creation point of material culture and, in the case of the Demons, despite it’s ever changing logo design, the Dees culture has retained a heart-beat for the fans to connect, for decades.

The true logo for the Demons can be found in the jumper. The classic red and blue composition which amplifies the athlete physique as it defines the attitude of the player. The precise proportion and its visual impact as an identifier is beyond compare - on game day and off.

There is no other short hand to the heart and mind like the red and blue “M”. With all sport brands there is the narrative, the marrow for a culture of purpose and sense of belonging. Which is why the Melbourne FC theme song is such an inspiring anthem.

Amidst a variety of brand iconography, the constant for Melbourne fans are the colours and the stories of agony and ecstasy, captured in the memories.

These live on forever. Go Dees.

Does your brand need a tribal identity? Do you want to connect with hearts and minds? We are well versed in all kinds of sporting identities. Say hello, we’re here to help.

R-Co Thinking Creative: Bizzi

Creating for creatives.

If you’re part of the design history, you know better than anyone that remote work is here to stay.

With the influx of work from home positions, blended work models and greater digitisation, we have seen an increasing need for collaborative work platforms. What used to be a boardroom, now looks like a chatroom.

Recently, R-Co undertook the task of branding the evolution of a smart tech platform. After extensive research, we advised our client to name it “Bizzi". Created for creatives, business owners and employees - Bizzi is a collaborative task management platform that supports new-age business structures.

Our client wanted a brand solution that captured the audience attention through the brand's visual language and emotional connection with the senses. This project reminded us that UX/UI isn’t just critical for your end client, it’s also critical for your internal team. We all could use more user-friendly design.

Are you a creative who wants to learn how to optimise your workflow and collaboration strategies? Or maybe you’re a business looking for a new lens on UX/UI design. We are tapped in to the right resources to support you on your path. Say hello, we’re here to help.

R-Co Tales from the Boardroom: Crown Melbourne

Crowned number one since 1994.

R-Co is always talking about value legacy, because we believe great things come from insightful wisdom.

We define wisdom as: Worldly, Informed, Strategic, Distinctive, Original and Measurable.

These are the qualities that embody our approach. They determine the strategic creative outcomes and the value as a reputation legacy of continual relevance.

Today, design of visual imagery is almost a commodity. It can be sourced from anywhere. What cannot be easily found is the insightful wisdom of the expert creative thinker.

The original Crown Melbourne branding was crafted in 1994 and has stood the test of time ever since. When you get it right the first time, there is no need to revisit. And at the sale of Crown Resorts for $8.9 Billion, the identity remains relevant.
