I just need to share this amazing story that I read this morning. Not only did it touch me, it is an amazing example of how social media can be used for an amazing cause.
Every year before Christmas the annual 3FM Serious Request is held. During the Dutch 3FM Serious Request, three popular radio DJs are locked up for six days in a small temporary radio studio (the "Glass House"), placed in a main square in a different city each year. Living on a juice-only fast, the DJs make an interactive, themed broadcast around the clock to raise money for a good cause.
Funds are raised in a few different ways. While the DJs are in residence, they play songs requested by listeners and visitors, in return for their donations. In addition, the general public can host events and fundraisers to donate to the cause.
One of these people is Six-year-old Tijn. He is terminally ill (he suffers from brain cancer) and has one last wish: he wants to raise as much money as possible to help other children. He supports 3FM Serious Request and he wants to help to prevent that children die from pneumonia. To raise money, he joined the DJs inside the house and paints nails for 1 euro. It got picked up by media, celebrities, influencers and the general public.
Tijn has almost raised one million euro!
Let him be an inspiration to us all.
Watch the video below, even though it is in Dutch, you won't regret it.
