Tinos is the island we didn’t expect to fall for.
Panagia Evangelistria is why most people come, some pilgrims crawl on their hands and knees from the port to the church, one of the most moving things we’ve seen in Greece. Go early morning and dress modestly, shoulders and knees covered, it’s an active pilgrimage site.
We stayed at Ela Tinos Suites , great location, fantastic breakfast, reasonably priced, and our top day out was Bianco Beach House Restaurant , the perfect spot for a drink by the water.
For food, O Ntinos , Forty One 41 Tinos and Χορεύτρα Τήνος were our favourites, and don’t leave without trying the artichoke cake, Tinos’ own dessert made from the island’s famous local artichokes.
If you’re there in summer, try to catch a panigiri, a village saint’s day festival with live music, dancing and food.
And make time for Pyrgos, the marble village, home to centuries of carving tradition.
