Syros stole a piece of my heart 🇬🇷
Stayed in Ermoupoli, the capital, right in the centre of everything. The architecture here tells you instantly why this is the capital of the Cyclades, neoclassical mansions, marble staircases, a completely different energy to the typical whitewashed island look.
One of the best parts? I barely heard anything but Greek the entire stay. The tourists here are mostly Greeks or from the diaspora, no crowds of foreign tourists.
𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗟 𝗦𝗬𝗥𝗢𝗦 and the beaches around it are buzzing, crystal clear water, day parties on the weekend, incredible sushi, and unorganised stretches on the concrete. Lively but still that laid-back island energy.
For loukoumia, Loukoumia Leivadaras is non-negotiable. Running since 1923, a century of getting it right.
For dinner, Mitsos Tavern is the move, meat feast done right, the kind of meal you talk about for weeks (make sure you go there hungry!)
Agios Nikolaos church sits proudly over the town, and there’s a monastery watching over everything too. By night, the town comes alive with some of the best clubs and bars on the island.
Syros isn’t trying to be Mykonos or Santorini and that’s exactly why it’s better.
