Some days just land exactly how they should.
Victoria and I set out with no real plan, just a tank of fuel and batteries full of electricity. the winding backroads of Gippsland, and that perfect Autumn sun cutting through the trees. Sunroof open and beautiful arom of pine trees and rich soil. No traffic, no noise, just the two of us getting pleasantly lost and taking it all in.
We rolled through many local townships and decided to stop in Loch and struck gold.
First stop, Loch & Key, run by Tamara and Dave. The calamari was as soft as it gets, the steak sandwich we shared hit the mark, and the cauliflower poppers didn’t last long. Washed down with a couple of fresh local ales in the sun… hard to beat.
Then onto Loch Cheese Merchant, where Stacey took care of us like we were old friends. No hard sell, just honest advice on what she’d serve at her own table. We left with a lineup of blues, hard cheeses, soft monkery, smoked goat’s cheese, and local produce that didn’t make it past halftime of Tigers vs Fremantle… paired with a couple of crisp gin martinis. And that quince was seriously good.
Days like this remind you to slow down, take the long way, and enjoy what’s right in front of you.
We’ll be back.
