The pros use a secret in the world of persuasion: the most persuasive thing you can do is to help someone come up with their argument instead of trying to convince them.
When someone comes up with an argument themselves, they're more likely to believe it because it's coming from the heart.
It also makes people feel more invested in the discussion, and they're more likely to act on it.
When you try to convince someone of something, it often feels like you're pushing them around.
But when someone comes up with their argument, they feel like they've arrived at a conclusion themselves — and that's a much more powerful feeling.
Of course, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't offer your help and advice. But the key is to encourage people to find their arguments, rather than trying to convince them yourself.
So next time you're trying to persuade someone of something, take a step back and encourage them to develop their argument.
It might feel like you're allowing them to win, but they'll be much more likely to come up with something that's convincing.
