A local actual indie band is #1 on the indie charts. Don’t get jealous, pay attention. Use their playbook.
It’s consistency. Every release has a strong identity, a strong brand, a tour/ show, stickers, merch.
Every show is treated like a headline show. They carefully curate the venues, supports and billings- they network and go to other bands shows/ events.
They tour- hit the hume, wherever the audience is. They revisit those areas when the appetite is needed.
They manually distribute their music- yup email local radio, do record runs to local stores, meet the owners, connect.
The main thing, they have a mailing list- every single action by is building their audience and network.
It didn’t happen overnight, but it did happen 😉

At the time I wasn’t well enough to appreciate what a huge undertaking and success it was, but 10 years after the Eagles of Death Metal Zipper Downunder fundraiser gig, woah! 6 acts, including Henry Wagons and from memory a young Gretta Ray, spanning different sounds and genres, sold out at 250 capacity (or more thanks ), an art sale with prints selling for months after the event, all to raise money to cover some of the loss from the Paris Terror Attacks.
I also met at this gig, who captured this shot and who I am lucky and thankful to kept a close working relationship with ever since.

While the world is very different today, I can finally appreciate what was achieved.
