As we step into this new year, let's not only look forward to exciting opportunities but also stay vigilant and proactive when it comes to our online safety.
We’ve seen a rise in fake social media accounts impersonating familiar contacts, promoting scams and phishing attempts.
It's a reminder that we need to be cautious and protect our personal information.

Here are a few simple tips to help you stay secure online:

- Verify new friend requests by checking mutual connections.
- Examine profiles closely for any suspicious links or details.
- Call the person directly if you’re unsure, especially when they ask for sensitive info
- Think twice before clicking any unknown links or attachments.

Let’s make 2025 a year of connection, but also one of awareness and security. Stay safe, stay smart, and enjoy every moment of the year ahead!

Hello everyone! We'd like to bring your attention to a pressing matter concerning social media friend requests. Recently, numerous cases of fake accounts impersonating familiar contacts have come to our attention, with these accounts promoting various offers.

Please ensure that you verify the identity of the person you're speaking with, especially if they request your personal information through a third-party website or messaging service. This holds true even if their name and photo seem to match someone you know.

Here are some tips to help you confirm the identity of your online contacts:

- Look for mutual connections (reach out to them for confirmation if the account is new, as they might have accepted the request based on the familiar name)
- Examine their profile (Are there any suspicious links?)
- Verify their contact details (Do they match their usual information?)
- Exercise caution with links and attachments (they could contain Trojan horse viruses)
- Call the person using their regular phone number
- Is this the normal behaviour of the person you are speaking to?

By following these simple precautions, you can minimise the risk of falling victim to such scams.

Stay safe everyone!

In July 2016, the Japanese consumer electronics company Funai Electric announced that it will no longer make VCRs (more commonly known as VHS tapes) this was the end of an era for recording videos to tape and along came DVD’s. Less popular for recording, but still prevalent DVD’s were the “new” way to capture your memories, but this was not too last. Netflix, Stan and iVIEW changed the landscape dramatically.

There was no longer a “reason” to record your favourite show on TV. Parallel to this, cameras became smaller and easier to use. From big cumbersome VHS recorders in the 90’s, to easier to use DVD cameras, to plug and play SD or USB capturing all of these items saved your videos or movies to a device of some sort.

Then along came the mobile phone. Mobile phones meant that any person could record any movie from anywhere. Apps came on the scene to enhance these movies and platforms, like YouTube were created to capture and store your videos. Now 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every MINUTE and almost 5 billion videos are watched, on YouTube alone, every single day!
And for most people this is great!

But what about those videos that are confidential? The videos that need to be saved in a secure host, or at a secure location (e.g. Kept in Australia). What do you do with copyrighted material, sensitive material or private material? YouTube is not the option for this.
For this, you need a specific Software as a Service solution. Some that will be a complete solution for hosting all your important videos.

Other scenarios that may need this are:
- Videos used in exams – it’s so important that the video can not be streamed or downloaded.
- Videos that are used as evidence – you need to ensure that the video is encrypted between the host and user
- Videos that are customised – when it is essential that your copyright is maintained
- Videos for your products – you do not want to give your competitors a preview or advantage
- When choosing your secure video hosting solution you need to ensure that
- No downloader, plugin or hack can download or share the video streamed through the provider
- That the stream is encrypted
- That you can add Watermarking to the video
- That you can capture the users IP Address, I.D., email or any other information you may require
- That you can play the videos offline
- That it will work on all devices and platforms
- That you can add subtitles
- That you can change speed, forward or rewind
- That the software will work successfully with your current
- Customer Relationship Management system, Content Management System or Learning Management System

Make sure that your choice of software ticks some or all of these boxes before making your choice and then you will be assured that your fantastic videos remain your own.

Make my job a game.

This is actually what your sales people have been craving!
Sounds like a fantasy. It’s not... it’s actually just arrived!
So what is this all about?.. Gamification!

Gamification in the workforce is the process of adding games to everyday processes and It is starting to be used by companies to engage employees and sales individuals.

What are some use cases?

- How about your team of salesmen getting “points” for reaching goals?
- Collecting badges for completing tasks. Just like scouts, if a certain job (or number of jobs) are completed, an online badge is rewarded.
- Compete against co-workers to get a job done.
- Whichever worker gets the most leads in a day gets the reward.
- Create a set of rules and actions that count the total number of closed cases or created opportunities
Salespeople getting real bonuses for hitting real targets?
- Your blue and red support teams competing to beat each other’s ratings?
- Use News Pages, feeds or boards to ensure that everyone is updated with what is going on within their teams and can see the progress of other teams.
- Have Real-time leader boards in help motivate sales teams.

Are you wanting to implement gamification into your business? Let the team at McGregor Murtagh help you implement the right system for your sales team.

Attention! - Are you email marketing?

A customer taking notice of an email, finding that it is interesting or important is the first, and some suggest, most important part of any mass email out.

Wow! You have got this far! If this was an email, 83% of you would not have got past the subject line!
A further 10 – 15 percent would of stopped reading at “Attention!” so you are now in a minority! Of the remaining few percent only a very small number would get to this point and even if they did even fewer will take notice, most people would intentionally disregard the information by now and have moved on to something else!

Things you need to consider with your future email marketing.
- View open rates
- Find what your customers clicked on
- Find where your customers scrolled to
- Find out how long they were at the targeted places
- Find out where they went at the end
- Reposition and optimise all of the above and go again!

Is your business just guessing what is working? Let us do your email marketing for you!

HUGE changes to the Google Algorithm sends the world in spin (November 2019)

Search engine optimisation for our website is always the top of everyone's mind as we want to rank first for our chosen keywords. Google rankings turn into potential sales and client traffic for our products or services. This week there were reports that saw sites across business, travel, recipes, eCom, tech news, affiliate sites, and other alternative health sites having a drop in traffic of up to 48%. A devastating drop for some businesses.

We have concluded that many of the sites which were blog heavy ended up losing a lot of weight to other sites that had standard pages. Google is still favouring Good content and properly executed pages that help the end-user get the right information the first time. Blog posts that were gaining momentum have been favoured for content-rich pages. You need to ensure that your pages are rich with useful information that your clients want and think about the kind of questions that your clients would ask and answer them on each page of your website.

Content, alas is only one part of a complex algorithm. Many users who claimed to do “GREY/BLACK” hat techniques had huge drops in visitors as well. These strategies are improper and unethical and Google is closing a lot of these strategies down. These include poor quality backlink sellers, private blog networks, link farms, article spinning, buying expired domains, and hidden links please seek advice from a professional before handing over your money. They could get your site blacklisted and marked as spam by Google.
If you would not look on that particular site to find your product, it's probably safe to say that your link should not be on there!

McGregor Murtagh only supports WhiteHat SEO Methods.
