Sheet masks have become such a big trend, particularly with younger generations, and I can understand why they’ve started to feel a little gimmicky.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some very questionable formulations out there, and many sheet masks aren’t going to dramatically change your skin. But there are a few reasons I actually really like them.

The first is post-treatment. I want to keep things as simple as possible and, where appropriate, use something sterile that I can apply without having to touch my skin. A sheet mask is perfect for this.

They’re also one of my favourites when I have an event the next day. Between getting a blow wave, making dinner, and steaming outfits, sometimes I just want a very quick skin routine that I know isn’t going to disrupt my skin overnight. This is when I reach for my medicube Global sheet mask. It gives my skin that little bit of extra hydration and care without adding complication to my evening routine.

And lastly, I think they can be a nice way to introduce certain ingredients more gradually. If you’re curious about an active like retinol, but don’t want to commit to a full-size product straight away, a sheet mask can be a gentler way to start exploring the ingredient.

I can certainly see why it’s easy to get carried away and want to try every new one that comes along, but you really don’t need a bathroom cupboard full of sheet masks to get the benefits from them.

The art of dermatologically driven results.

Swipe through to view a selection of my clients following a range of treatments, including laser, injectable treatments and my Doctor Shammi Hair Protocol.

Each outcome begins with a consultation, followed by a treatment plan tailored to the individual.

Hair loss rarely appears overnight, but sometimes a change in hairstyle can make thinning feel much more noticeable. For Cameron, it was going from long hair to short hair that first made him aware of changes in his hair density.

Today, I’m treating Cameron Pine from InStyle Australia with the Dr Shammi Hair Protocol alongside a prescribed treatment to address the underlying factors contributing to his hair loss.

My approach to hair loss is individually tailored following consultation, and the approach will vary depending on the cause and pattern of hair loss.

You can find more information about my Hair Protocol on my website. For a diagnosis and personalised treatment plan, book a hair consultation with me in person or via telehealth.

You loved my beauty gems from Coles, so I thought I’d share some of my supplement hidden gems, too.

I love being able to pick these up during a regular food shop. It makes life that little bit easier, and these are supplements I’ve personally repurchased time and time again.

The Swiss magnesium glycinate is one I particularly recommend. Everyone I’ve suggested it to has come back to me saying they’ve noticed an improvement in their sleep.

Happy shopping. 🤍

The weird (and wonderful) things I’ve incorporated into my daily life as a dermatologist.

I’m a big believer in routine, not perfection. Having a few simple rituals you can actually stick to makes all the difference. Pick two or three of my biohacks for healthy ageing, and think of them as preventative maintenance for your skin.

Downtime is temporary. The results aren’t.

As a dermatologist, one thing I wish more people knew, especially if you’ve been self-conscious about pigmentation, sun damage or wrinkles for years, is that 1-1.5 weeks of downtime can be a relatively small trade-off for a treatment that can move you significantly closer to your end goal.

And I say this as someone who has these treatments myself. I’m very comfortable with a little downtime when I know what I’m working towards.

That said, I always tell my clients to do their research before choosing an ablative or intensive treatment. The treatment itself is only one part of it. Hygiene and aftercare are incredibly important while the skin is healing, particularly when the skin barrier has been intentionally disrupted.

This is also where having a doctor involved makes a difference. If something unexpected happens, such as an infection, it can be assessed and treated promptly.

A week or so of downtime can feel like a long time when you’re in it. But in the context of the years you may have spent feeling uncomfortable with your skin, it can be a relatively small window for a meaningful change.

If you’re prioritising lifting and tightening of the face, schedule this treatment every six months...

The genius of Ultraformer is it its versatility. We can treat at different depths depending on what your skin and tissue actually require. So yes, it can target fat, but only when that is appropriate and intended.

For me, the primary purpose is lifting and tightening. As the cheeks and jawline begin to descend with age, I use Ultraformer to target the deeper supporting layers and help lift the tissue back into a more youthful position.

It’s one of the treatments I consider part of my regular maintenance, rather than something I wait until I feel I need.

You know me as Doctor Shammi, but here’s a little glimpse into the life of Shammi.

A day off, although admittedly I’m never very good at staying away from the clinic for too long. There’s something rather lovely about having nowhere to be and wandering around some of my favourite spots on Gertrude Street. A little retail therapy, a little window shopping… and a few things I probably didn’t need.

As for the last shop…let’s just say I’m there so often I’m beginning to think the staff see more of me than anyone else does. 🫣

As a dermatologist, I think the concept of a “facelift” is going to evolve.

By 2027, I believe we will increasingly use the term to describe strategic, non-surgical approaches to facial ageing, rather than surgery alone.

We now have tools that can work at very different levels. EMface can address muscle, Ultraformer can target deeper structural layers, and biostimulators can support collagen and skin quality.

Used thoughtfully and in combination, these treatments allow us to work with the way the face ages rather than simply pulling everything tighter.

For me, the future is not about replacing surgery with one miraculous treatment. It is about understanding the biology of ageing and using the right tools, in the right combination, to encourage the body’s own processes of repair and regeneration.

That is where I think facial rejuvenation is heading.

Longevity and healthy ageing are influenced by many factors, with diet and lifestyle playing an important role. And as modern life becomes increasingly busy, being intentional about what you keep in your pantry and fridge becomes more important than ever.

A diet high in highly processed foods can contribute to processes such as glycation and oxidative stress, neither of which I want to prioritise when I’m thinking about healthy ageing and preserving the integrity of collagen, particularly as a dermatologist. Advanced glycation end-products, for example, have been implicated in changes to collagen and other structural proteins associated with skin ageing.

I like to make intentional choices by keeping my pantry stocked with simple, nourishing staples that I can turn into delicious meals or reach for when I need a quick snack.

These are some of the foods I always keep on hand, not only because I love the taste, but because they provide healthy fats, fibre and polyphenols, and help me build a diet centred around supporting metabolic health and keeping chronic inflammation in check. Chronic, low-grade inflammation is increasingly recognised as an important feature of ageing and is associated with a range of age-related diseases.

A little preparation at the grocery store can go a long way. Having the right foods readily available makes it easier to make choices that support how your skin, hair and body age over time.
