Last week I attended the Brava Women Networking event at the LXD Lounge at Chadstone, led by Dhea, the queen of connection.

It was such a great space for women to connect, share ideas and support each other in business.

I was also lucky enough to win a beautiful bouquet from Flowers for Jane, which was a lovely surprise.

Three things I really wish I [knew] before starting my business, the kind of things I’d tell the earlier version of me and maybe you need to hear too.

First, things don’t have to be perfect to get started. You need to get out of your own way. We spend so much time second-guessing, tweaking, over-preparing. But the truth is, you learn by doing. Start and figure it out as you go. Clarity comes through action, not overthinking.

Second, not everyone is your ideal client and that’s a good thing. Saying yes to every job, discount or quick favour feels necessary at first… until it burns you out. Price with intention and trust that the right people will see the value. You’re not for everyone and that’s your superpower.

Third, it’s okay not to have all the answers. No one does. You’re not meant to do it all alone. Lean into those who know more than you. Ask questions. Stay curious. The best thing I did was embrace learning as part of the process, not something you finish before you start.

Still soaking up the magic of last weekend’s Africa Day Australia Gala Dinner … a flagship celebration held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), bringing together over 570 guests across all levels of government — including Premier Jacinta Allan, Leader of the Opposition Brad Battin MP, and Lord Mayor of Melbourne Nick Reece — to honour African excellence, leadership and vibrant culture.

This event is so much more than a night of music, dance and awards.

It’s legacy. It’s visibility. It’s community.

And it’s the kind of night that reminds you just how powerful storytelling and representation truly are.

We’re so proud to have supported the amazing ADA team behind the scenes with social media coverage on the night — a team led by President Qiniso Dube, supported by a great team whose grit and perseverance have grown this Gala into the must-attend cultural event — not just for the African community in Australia, but for the wider community as well.

Pictured here with the incredible MC Poni Tongun — a powerhouse of sharp wit and humour. She’s the only MC I know who welcomes the Premier to the stage with a selfie… and somehow makes it look effortless.

If you are posting links in your Instagram captions these aren't clickable.

The best (and free) way to share links on Instagram is to add a link to your bio. This can either be a direct link to your website,
using a tool such as Linktree or creating a landing page.

For accounts with over 10k followers you can use the "Swipe Up" option on Instagram stories.

The paid option is to create an Instagram advert through the Facebook Ads Manager.
