Mah.la is a Melbourne based contemporary jewellery label specialising in ethically sourced and sustainable precious metal and gemstone creations. Each piece is designed, handmade and textured by me in my studio using traditional and contemporary jewellery techniques. My pieces are inspired by my love of the unknown and a desire to examine the mysteries of earth, the stars and planets . I'm originally from Perth but have spent the majority of my life travelling to far flung places and delighting in all the beauty the world has to offer. I've long had an interest in adorning the body and before relocating to Melbourne to complete a Diploma of Jewellery at NMIT I undertook studies in Fashion and Textiles at Perth TAFE and Costume Design at WAAPA. My love of writing, art and literature have also been complemented by a Bachelor of Communications from ECU.

Another long pose day done and dusted. This large A2 piece comprising conte, pastel, graphite, and pencil took about 3.5 hours. Absolutely love this one and such a delightful model to draw. **eart

Who loves ? A lot of people avoid drawing knees because they're complex, wrinkly, boney, and unsexy. But I refute that. Knees are lovely, beautiful and really fun to draw. Their complexity make them a perfect study for pastels. So give knees a chance next time you decide to hone your skills.

One of my favourite pieces of last created last night + some hand drawing practice that many of us asked for and then looked terrified when we got it (me included). But I’m actually pretty happy with them considering they were 4 minute sketches and I avoid hands at all costs 🤣

Drawing clothed ‘n**es’ Is a challenge for me because I’m colourblind. But the discomfort forced me to slow down and focus on the structural details, fabric folds, and hidden forms. I’m so glad I picked through and am very happy with these final pieces.
