I AM SO GRATEFUL COMING INTO 2022
I don’t often share my personal health details on Facebook, but after a bit of contemplation over the last week I feel I can help / share / give hope to others who have hormonal issues, been told they have suspected cancer, and for those of you who are looking at having a hysterectomy……let you know what to expect (because dam….it’s been an interesting journey so far).
I’ve been on a roller coaster ride the last 2 months…..
2 months ago exactly I was rushed down to the ER by my husband as I had a sharp pain in my lower abdomen, heavy breathing, sweating profusely, pain in my right shoulder, and lying on the floor in the foetal position was the only position that felt comfortable to me. After the a couple of hours in the ER the Dr mentioned that he thought it was an ovarian cyst that had burst. I was sent off to get an ultrasound that afternoon. (You could tell the radiologist was concerned with what he saw). The ultrasound showed that I had a huge mass 9.8cm x 8cm x 9cm that looked twisted.
I was then referred on to a gynaecologist who then did another ultrasound and sent me off to get a blood CA125 blood test (one that measures the level of cancer antigen in your blood). Again we could feel the gynaecologist was concerned over what she saw in the ultrasound, and the reason I was sent off to get the CA125 test.
I had a phone call 3 days later from the gynaecologist going over my CA125 result…….I was being referred to an oncologist gynaecologist.
Crying and shock set in…..but for 30 minutes only🤪 No way was I going to let this get me down, play victim to this, I was going to fight and get my health back no matter what I needed to do…..surgery, chemo, supplements, essential oils, remove sugar from my diet….I was ready to do it all!
1.5 weeks later I saw my oncologist gynaecologist……let’s call her DR B…..she was wonderful, very informative, and booked my surgery in within a couple of weeks. As she mentioned…..the scanning systems we use don’t show everything that is really going….thus key hole surgery was a must.
Day of surgery…..yup I was ready for anything. My surgery went for 3 hours….. started as key hole and then turned out to be an abdominal hysterectomy. I remember waking up going…..”oh my abs, the pain…..no I’m going to vomit…..no the pain”. Obviously my surgery turned out to be more than just key hole.
DR B had already rung my husband to let him know what she had found (which I asked her too). My so called ovarian cyst was actually a large fibroid that had wrapped itself around my uterus…….thus the fibroid mass had been sent off to pathology to find out if it was malignant or benign.
I’ll leave my recovery stories and symptoms to another post……..but what I would like to say is the 3 days I was in hospital, all I can mention is how wonderful the nurses, doctors and staff were…..They are the hero’s of our world!
Back home, and 2 days before Xmas 🤶 had a check in phone call from DR B…… the fibroid mass was benign! What an amazing early Xmas gift for me and my family. What relief!
I’m 3 weeks post surgery…..and still have a long way to go …….but I am so grateful! So grateful for my health, my husband, my family, my staff, my friends who knew what was going on……just so grateful!
So if I’ve been a little quiet…..this is why! I’m focusing on my health……so I can live to be 100 (like my grandma)😘
(If you would love to follow my journey I’ll post over on my pt/health page….workouts, my research on hormonal factors, supplements I’m taking etc).
