Oh, where has your creative voice gone?
You know, your most valuable asset?

AI came along and us creatives got scared.

Petrified, really.

We were told we’d be replaced. We were told our livelihoods were in danger. ⚠️

As a social media specialist, I was told to adopt AI or get left behind.

If you know me, you’ll know I don’t go down that easily.

As I’ve watched Instagram posts riddled with AI language overload my feed, I can’t help but think, my creativity is my competitive advantage.

And it is yours, too.

Our audiences are craving authenticity. Lived experience. The person behind the post.

AI is efficient. Yes. But it will never be human.

Fliss.

I feel like writing a magazine on this one - the power of WORDS.

For years, I called The Creative Marketing Co. a “small business.”

And it was.

Not because of our revenue.
Not because of our client list.
Not because of the quality of our work.

But because that’s how I spoke about it.

The moment I stopped introducing it as my “little business” and instead as a marketing agency, I showed up differently.

I charged differently. My core message changed. I made decisions for the business I was building for.

The same thing happened when I stopped calling myself a “freelance marketer” and started calling myself the go-to marketer for regional businesses.

Here’s what happened - regional businesses started seeking me out.

Opportunities appeared. Referrals increased.

Your words become your identity.
Your identity shapes your actions.
And your actions create your reality.

So here’s the question:

What are you calling yourself that you need to stop?

“Just” a freelancer?

“Only” a sole trader?

A “small” business owner?

The story you tell yourself is the ceiling you’re living under.

What words will you use instead?

To the ones that choose to stay…

I fear you’ll leave. Probably because so many have.

I have a history of losing people. Family. Partners. Clients.

I am also diagnosed bipolar type I.

I have a 23 day injection cycle. If you choose to stick around, you’ll see the best and worst of me in this 23 days.

Heaven forbid I don’t take my meds on time. Then you will see the worst. Definitely.

It’s awful, really. I live with this agonising fear that you will leave. Eventually anyway.

The meds are anti-psychotics. When I first have the injection, it’s like a tranquilliser. All I want to do is sleep.

Once the initial shock to my body wears off, I’m beautifully productive and creative for a good three weeks.

The last days, when I am med free, I’m flighty. Talkative. Impulsive. I feel wonderful but this is when I do the most damage.

It’s a tricky one - running a business with bipolar. Ideally, I’d like retainer clients, but this requires you to see me out for more than the 23 days.

So, this is for the one’s that stayed. The and the ’s. The and the ’s. The and the .nation’s.

The few that see the brilliance as well as the battle. The people who help, rather than judge.

You guys and a few others have all my love. The true MVPs of this operation.

Fliss.

Yesterday was one of those brilliant days.

You know the type - when you’re filled with an overwhelming sense of purpose.

My studio became the perfect venue for community. For collaboration. For connection.

A safe space for artists and creatives to speak about the future of art in Narromine.

and chose my little studio and suddenly I realised - my space had found its role.

At times, I’ve felt deflated by the lack of success of .creativecollabnarromine

But as 16 of my ideal clients gathered, I thought to myself, “maybe the wait wasn’t punishment. It was preparation.”

Looking forward to seeing what the future holds for creatives in our town 💛

I was losing clients to competitors and I knew it.

Regional business owners are my ideal clients. In the early days of The Creative Marketing Company, I watched prospects choose another marketer over me. Repeatedly.

For a long time, I assumed it was because they were better.

More talented.
More experienced.
More qualified.

They weren’t.

They were more visible.

Their social media was consistent. They were top of mind. People felt like they knew them before they ever made contact.

And when people know you, they start to like you.
When they like you, they start to trust you.

Trust wins sales.

Meanwhile, I had the qualifications.
I had the experience.
I’d even lectured brand management at university.

None of that mattered if people didn’t know I existed.

It wasn’t my lack of expertise that cost me the sale.

It was my lack of visibility.

Showing up online can feel uncomfortable.

Watching potential clients choose someone else because you’re invisible? That’s far worse.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start showing up more consistently, this is it.

Show up.

Because if you don’t, someone else will.

The fear of visibility costs regional businesses customers.

There’s loads of research on the neuroscience of visibility.

It’s a funny one - being visible is a double-edged sword for the brain. We get a dopamine hit from positive social recognition. However, it also triggers a feeling of vulnerability. Insert the fight-or-flight response.

Understanding this helps explain why putting yourself “out there” is physically taxing.

I’ll be honest, even putting my photo out there on Instagram used to petrify me. But the only thing scarier than showing up, in my mind, is having an invisible business 🫥

Social media is your ticket to visibility. To being seen and heard by your ideal clients.

It’s scary. Yes. But oh, is it worth it!

My “little” business has grown leaps and bounds since I sat with the discomfort and showed up anyway.

Leads are generated. Contracts are signed. Money flows. All because I showed up.

If you’re ready to start selling from social media, let me teach you.

1:1 Done With You Social Sessions are booking out.

Be where your people are and let me sort your social media!

No business wants to be their town’s best kept secret 🤐

Sure, people love discovering “hidden gem” cafes or obscure local shops, but businesses themselves suffer and eventually fail if nobody knows they exist.

I’ve seen great businesses fail because of a lack of visibility.

In 2026, business owners can’t reply solely on word of mouth.

I believe a digital presence is no longer a “nice to have.” It’s a necessity.

If you want to be the obvious, go-to choice in your regional town, you need to get your business out of the shadows.

This means stepping it up on socials, refining your messaging and owning your expertise.

This is exactly what The Creative Marketing Company helps with.

When you partner with us, your great business becomes visible.

“I saw your post.”
“I follow you.”
“I found you on Instagram.”

These are the comments our clients hear. This is how they know their social media marketing efforts are working.

If you’re sick of shoppers saying “I didn’t know your business existed”, it’s time to get serious about socials.

To step out of the shadows and become known,

I’m a beautiful creative 💡who happens to have Bipolar and ADHD.

As a business owner, this combo can make things hard. I mean, I can’t sit still. I either hyper-fixate or can’t concentrate. Boring yet important tasks don’t get done.

I used to say, “what’s wrong with me?”

Now I’m asking, “what conditions does my brain need to thrive.”

I’ve worked a few things out since changing my perspective.

Firstly, my brain needs a designated workplace. An environment conducive to both productivity and creativity. My studio .creativecollabnarromine is perfect. It really is where my ideas live.

Secondly, I’m leaning into my strengths. Stuff like building relationships, creating content and leading my brand. For everything else, there’s a system or staff member for.

Lastly, I’ve learnt that consistency beats intensity. I used to go all in - overworking myself. But this resulted in burnout and the loss of clients. Learning about my energy shifts and medication cycle has changed things dramatically.

My biggest sign of thriving isn’t working at 110% everyday. It’s building a business that still succeeds when I’m operating at less than full capacity.

I’m no longer criticising myself for not being more disciplined. Instead, I’m working with my brain so my creativity can shine ✨

What’s truly soul-destroying?

Pretending online.

The toll it’s taking on you and your business is serious.

The curated grid. Monitoring your words. Fitting the mould of “Instagram worthy” posts.

It’s exhausting.

More than that - it’s alienating for you AND your audience.

Showing up authentically has been the go for a while now.

So what does this mean?

To me, it means using your genuine voice (catch ya, AI). It means being somewhat vulnerable and personable. It means posting content that aligns with your values and beliefs, not just content the algorithm likes.

One of my clients said it perfectly - “you’re exactly what I expected you to be like from your Instagram.”

But, I’ll be honest. Instagram is upsetting me. I sometimes feel like I can’t keep up. Like my posts aren’t perfect enough. Like my handful of interactions aren’t good enough.

But then I remember, my posts aren’t designed to go viral. They’re there to connect with my ideal audience.

If the 5 likes became clients, I’d be pretty stoked.

I’ll keep being real and a “bit much” - in business and in life. I mean, I could never do beige anyway…
