If you saw our most recent reel, you might be able to guess that Anth is a little obsessed with colour. The psychology behind it, the way colours complement each other, and the impact a simple palette change can have on the overall feel of a brand. 🙌

One of his latest reads is The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St Clair, which looks at how colour shapes emotion and influences the way we feel.

In our branding questionnaire we ask, 'Are there any colours or emotions we should avoid in the build of your brand?' for that very reason.

Colour is not just visual, it can shape how people feel about your brand, often without them even realising. What colours create the right feeling? What connection are we trying to build? What do we want people to feel when they land on your website, see your socials or walk into your space?

It is something we always think about when building brands. But Anth is usually the only one being kept awake by the possibilities 😅

We’ve officially been invited to join the OpenAI Ads Manager Beta Program. 👏🏻

Think your brand showing up when people are asking ChatGPT for recommendations, products or services.

The ad format feels a little more like a right-column Meta placement than Google Ads (if that means anything to anyone).

If you’d like to be one of the first businesses to trial this, shoot me a message and let’s chat!

**Note that while we are really keen to start testing this platform and exploring what opportunities it can create for clients, I am not ready to actively start managing accounts just yet! 💙Michelle

Are you a background noise person? Do you throw on a TV show or a movie 📺 ? Do you listen to music 🎵 and if so does it have to be instrumental or with vocals? Or, are you someone who needs COMPLETE AND UTTER SILENCE 🤫 to focus?

It's so interesting to hear how everyone has a different approach that works for them, and how malleable that can be given the situation. We get pretty accustomed to working in our cars, or if we're lucky, a cafe between meetings and shoots. But when we're tucked away safely in our offices, here's what works for us:

Anth: My ideal is an old movie or TV show I've seen a thousand times. A nice, gentle comedy that is loud enough to massage the distractible parts of my brain, but not so engrossing that I will stop and watch. However, if I'm working on something that demands all of my senses, like an audio-heavy video edit or a particularly difficult email, it has to be complete silence; no sounds, not even any notifications. I call this goblin mode. 👿

Michelle: My ideal would be silence. If my brain is feeling particularly buzzy, I like having music in soundproof headphones. But it must be music I have heard a thousand times before. My current choice is the Hours album by Funeral For A Friend. I went through a phase of watching TV while working, it was always The Office, but I have too many meetings for that to be a productive environment haha

Laura: I need silence. I wish I could listen to music or even an audiobook. But my brain talks to me all day, every day.

Adam: Working on socials allows for a light bit of music, always adds a pep to my step in the morning. But in the land of google and meta ads, it starts with music but very quickly moves to silence, haha

How about you? What works for you? 📺🎵🤫?

When developing brand guides for our clients, we typically recommend 4–6 colours in a brand palette. 🎨

Why? Too many colours and your brand can start to feel inconsistent or messy. Too few and you may struggle to create variation in your brand.

A strong colour palette helps your brand feel cohesive wherever it appears, while still giving you flexibility, contrast and room to play.

Just finished Kaity Griffin's Profitable Promotion course and I'm officially a Google Ads Legend (the biscuit said so, can't argue). 🫣

Meta Ads is one thing. Google Ads is a whole different beast. More options, more drop downs, more "wait, what does THAT setting do" moments. Ten levels deep in a campaign and you're still finding new things to optimise.

Worth every late night though.

Sharper account structures, smarter bidding, and a much better handle on where the money's actually going.

👉 If you've got a Google Ads account that needs a fresh pair of eyes, give us a shout and we can get lost together.

- Adam 💚

🙏 P.S. Can confirm the biscuit was 3 months old. Tasted accordingly. Still ate it. Still a legend.

I am currently nap trapped in a car, so let’s have a little tech debrief for a second…

As you probably know, we work in a pretty tech-heavy space and, honestly, even I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with the amount of change happening right now.

If you’re a business owner wondering what on earth is going on, you’re definitely not alone… Or maybe I am just chronically online and this is the first time you’re hearing any of this! 😂

Anyhoo, the TLDR version of what’s been on my radar:

🤖 Paid ads are beginning to roll out in Australia on ChatGPT, with access still limited and very much in beta. We’re on the waitlist and already diving into training - because this space is moving FAST.

The bigger shift? Discovery is changing. People are increasingly asking AI for recommendations instead of typing traditional Google searches, meaning businesses may need to rethink how they show up online.

🤖 This leads me to my next point! Google Search is going through its biggest change in 25 years. They are leaning hard into AI and search is starting to look very different.

Instead of short keywords (e.g. best accountant Newcastle), people are increasingly searching in full conversations (e.g. I run a small business and need an accountant who understands Xero and growth planning).

This means website content matters more than ever. Trust signals, reviews and authority matter more. And Google Ads + SEO performance will no doubt shift as AI impacts results.

🤖 Over on socials we are seeing some big updates as well (and yes the AI theme continues). Meta just announced - literally a few hours ago - a new app called Forum.

At the moment it’s iOS-only and not available in Australia yet, but it looks like the main focus of the app is Facebook Groups. Users can browse groups, post inside communities and even ask an AI chatbot questions sourced from group discussions.

For businesses building communities, this one is worth watching. It could change how people discover and engage with niche communities.

🤖 And finally an honourable mention goes to LinkedIn now showing business page admins who is stalking their account. Oh! And Claude can now connect directly into Adobe Creative Cloud and actually do creative work across apps using prompts. My goodness!

I think they are the main ones right now. I hope this doesn’t come across as doomsday or alarmist content - there are some genuinely exciting opportunities for businesses on the horizon. It’s just a lot!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on all of this change… Do we need to create some type of ‘marketing your business in an AI world’ webinar? I think Adam and his 72 AI Agents would be the person for that session!

Ps. This took so long to write, look who woke up! 😅

Wishing a very Happy Mother's Day to all the mums, parents, mentors and supportive figures in our lives. Where would we be without our mums? And where would we be without our own matriarchal figure, Michelle?

We are so endlessly appreciative of the love and support we get from Michelle. She is a delight to work for and with, and one of the most genuine and caring people we've each had the pleasure of knowing. Thanks Michelle, for everything. We hope we never leave you feeling unappreciated or taken for granted. We love you heaps.

Editor's note: This post was obviously meant to go out yesterday. This is why Anth isn't allowed to do scheduling.

A second editor’s note: We think this was meant to go out last week... Anth, a very sweet sentiment but maybe stick with the content creation vs the posting 😂

It’s been a little while since we last posted on socials, so we thought it was time for a quick proof of life!

Ever heard the saying “the painter’s house is always the worst painted”? I think that’s been us lately. Over the past few months we’ve been working non-stop with a mix of long-term clients and some exciting new projects across branding, strategy and digital marketing… and our own marketing quietly slipped down the to-do list.

Hopefully next week will give us the kick up the butt we need to start treating ourselves like a client again. The whole Poppy Seed Media team is heading down to Melbourne to attend a marketing conference.

Investing in education has always been important to us, and we’re looking forward to a few days of hearing from some brilliant minds in the industry and bringing back new ideas, strategies and insights we can put into practice.

We know The Carpenters Ruin will be our first stop for dinner on Tuesday night, but hit us with any other must-eat spots in Melbourne while we’re there! 🤗
