BIG NEWS: It’s officially book launch time! 🎉

BRAG is launching at Hunter Innovation Festival 2026 on 13 October in Newcastle, and I honestly can’t think of a better place to do it.

If you’re a marketer working inside a manufacturing, engineering, defence, energy, mining or technical business, this book is for you.

Especially if you’re the one trying to explain what marketing actually does, make sense of a ridiculously complex business, get the technical team to give you something you can turn into content, prove your value to the leadership team and somehow find time to do all the actual marketing as well.

I see you. I’ve worked alongside you for more than 25 years. And BRAG was written to make that job a little easier.

It’s practical, very industrial, occasionally cheeky and built around what marketing actually looks like in the businesses we work in.

And now we get to launch it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

There is so much more coming between now and 13 October, including some exciting announcements, BRAG.CLUB, ways to get involved in the launch and plenty of opportunities to be part of what we’re building.

So follow along, keep an eye out for what’s next and, if you can make it to Hunter Innovation Festival, I really hope I’ll see you there.

The book will be available in print, ebook and audiobook for $39.95 and, yup, next week I’m in the studio recording the audiobook myself.

It’s getting very real now.

Sat with a regional manufacturer this week. Twenty-five years of work for the same five major clients.

The question that broke the conversation open: “If your top three clients retired tomorrow, how would you replace them?”

They couldn’t answer.

That’s the cost of staying invisible.

Save this question for your next quarterly review. It’s the cheapest way I know to surface a positioning problem before it’s a pipeline problem.

More on this in BRAG. Coming this year. https://brag.club/

In industrial markets, buyers aren't choosing on features alone. They’re choosing on trust.

Trust that you'll deliver on time. Trust that you understand compliance. Trust that when something goes wrong, you'll fix it before it lands on the front page.

Your brand is the signal system that builds that trust before a single conversation happens. It isn’t decoration. It isn’t pretty for the sake of pretty.

It's risk reduction.

And when your brand is clear, consistent, and credible, you don't just win more work. You win better work.

BRAG exists because industrial and STEM businesses have often undervalued marketing, and the marketers inside them are left without clear frameworks or the confidence that comes with them.

AI is changing the landscape, but no tool can compensate for weak foundations.

Without clear positioning, defined markets and a deliberate strategy, even the smartest systems struggle to deliver meaningful results.

Industrial marketers also face challenges most consumer brands rarely encounter. Long procurement cycles, high-value contracts and technical detail that cannot simply be simplified away.

BRAG is about bringing structure to that complexity.

It begins as a book.

And over time, the ambition is that it becomes a standard.

For businesses shaping infrastructure, energy systems, defence capability and manufacturing supply chains, visibility isn’t about self-promotion.

It’s about leadership.

Remaining silence doesn’t necessarily protect credibility. In many cases, it simply limits it.

Clear positioning, confident communication and deliberate marketing are often signs of a mature organisation, not an arrogant one.

So yes. Go on, BRAG a little.

Industrial businesses often do very complex work. But, complexity itself is not the problem. The real challenge is translation.

If that complexity is not explained clearly, the market simply cannot see the value.

Inside the business, marketing then struggles to gain traction, because the story is still forming.

BRAG is about helping industrial businesses turn that complexity into clarity.

And helping the people responsible for marketing communicate that value with confidence.

In many industrial businesses, marketing is often the closest voice to the customer.

It owns the website, spends time understanding the market landscape, and often notices shifts in positioning, competition or diversification before anyone else does.

That perspective is not peripheral, it is strategic.

Marketing should be involved in shaping direction, not simply brought in later to execute once decisions have already been made.

When marketing is part of those conversations, growth tends to become far more deliberate rather than reactive.

Hi, I’m Jacqui.

I’m the author of BRAG, and the founder and CMO at The Measured Marketer.

And yes, I do love a bit of high-vis.

Over the past decade I’ve worked alongside manufacturing, energy, defence and engineering businesses across Australia.

Many of these businesses run with very lean internal marketing teams. Marketing is often under-resourced, and not always given the commercial credibility it needs to properly support the business.

BRAG is not being written for conference rooms.

It’s being written for real industrial businesses, and the marketers inside them who are figuring things out, building capability, and trying to move the business forward.

Word of mouth has built many strong industrial businesses.

Long-standing relationships, decades of reputation, and repeat work have carried companies a very long way.

But reputation does not automatically follow you into new markets.

When businesses move into new sectors, new geographies or new capabilities, they often discover they are starting again in the eyes of the market.

And in that moment, being “the industry’s best-kept secret” stops being a strength.

Industrial marketing needs to step up to that reality, not simply rely on the momentum of history.
