Last year we had great fun working on the council's NewiHub series.

Our time on that project has come to an end, but it's still a great resource for startups. We've collected some of our favourite stories and interviews for prosperity.

In 2021, City of Newcastle launched NewiHub, a virtual ecosystem serving as a hub for local startups and entrepreneurs and a way to showcase some of the city’s innovative projects to a wider audience. The council approached Civic Web Media…

Always great to be a part of Awesome Newcastle and hear about the great ideas in the community.

Read the post below to find out more about the incredible service being offered by Hunter Homeless Connect.

As luck and other circumstances would have it, Awesome Newcastle went back online last night for another Awesome Newcastle. Videos were watched, drinks were poured and, most importantly money was transferred. We’re not gonna let a pesky pandemic stop us from giving 1000 bucks to amazing ideas! Las...

Every now and then, you get to work on a project that really excites you.

Recently we've been partnering with City of Newcastle on the Newihub project. This site has lots of excellent features, but our favourite is finding out about some of the local success stories in business.

Today we published what might be my favourite story yet -- Fay Al-Janabi's piece on SwimPro, an accidental invention that became a world-leader used by Olympic swim squads across the world.

Civic Web Media is looking to expand its freelance writing database with one or two reliable writers in the Newcastle area.

As a freelance position, work can be sporadic, but there are a couple of upcoming projects that will require some extra hands on board, generally for a day or two every week or in our Hunter Street office.

These projects are working with a well-known name in Australia to update and create compelling content for their website. Knowledge of topics like painting, renovations and gardening will come in handy.

As well as strong writing skills, an understanding of SEO (or a willingness to learn) will be beneficial.

To apply, please email oliver[at]civicwebmedia.com.au with examples of your work, your day rate and your general availability.

Meet the latest addition to the Civic Web Media team: Tai. Tai's blind and he dribbles when he eats, but we love him all the same.

When we started Civic Web Media, we decided we wanted to do something to give back to the community. This was inspired by speaking to someone running a market stall who gives a huge chunk of his profits to a good cause.

We decided that we wanted to do something similar. So every time we get to a hundred paid invoices, we make a donation to somewhere that's making a positive difference in the world. Since 2015, we've donated time and money to a few worthy causes -- charities and not-for-profits that help the environment, give needy kids presents at Christmas, provide shelter for women and that protect and promote LGBT rights.

This isn't a side of our business that we've talked about a lot, but I recently figured it was the right thing to do -- if someone talking about doing that inspired us, maybe we can do the same.

As well as adopting Tai, we recently gave a cash donation to the newly founded Port Stephens Koalas. If you've seen the news of destruction and lack of care for koalas in Australia recently, you'll know they need all the help they can get.
