My quick analysis on the recent State of Search report for Q2 2026.

As always, lots of very interesting data in here.

This report confirms what the others before it have, which is that AI search and Google are both growing together.

This time though there are some interesting swings towards Google's ecosystem.

Google in their AI SEO guide:
“you don’t need to create machine readable files”

Also Google when announcing a new core web vitals measure:
“LLMs.txt: Checks for the presence of a machine-readable summary at the domain root”.

Prime example of what Google says and what Google does not matching.

Google is introducing an "Agentic Browsing" category that evaluates how well your site is constructed for machine interaction through a set of deterministic audits.

May as well create your llms.txt file. No harm in it for SEO, and looks to be an upcoming check in the PWA section of lighthouse.

For businesses wondering about how AI impacts their discoverability, this is one key emerging element.
