The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is pushing to protect people's health and the environment by moving to restrict PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.”

This action follows urgent calls from several countries to address the risks these chemicals pose (PFAS, first produced in the 1940s, are used in a wide variety of products and industrial processes).

The European Commission will decide on the next steps by the end of 2026.

What does leadership look like in an age of crisis, division and burnout? At the 2026 Melbourne Writers Festival, Jacinda Ardern reflected on empathy, humility and emotional honesty as strengths — not weaknesses — in public life.

This week on Local Peoples, Alexi Freeman shares insights from Jacinda Ardern's words at the Melbourne Writers Festival, and how her leadership legacy continues to resonate far beyond New Zealand.

Every year on May 26, we come together for National Sorry Day - a time to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were taken from their families and communities, known as the Stolen Generations.

This day is about honouring the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflecting on how each of us can help with healing, both for our people and our nation. While this date holds deep meaning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, it’s also a moment for all Australians to pause and reflect. Learn more > https://t.ly/zumG4

ICYMI Australia’s housing isn’t keeping up with the needs of our ageing population.

From poor insulation to limited accessibility, many older Australians are left at risk in homes that don’t support their changing needs.

Ageing in place is what most want, but our homes and policies need to catch up. Let’s talk about the real impact: older women, First Nations Elders, gig workers, and those living alone face even greater housing insecurity.

It’s time for inclusive, co-designed solutions. Read Alexi Freeman's piece on Local Peoples to catch up on this important issue > https://t.ly/KUvXA
