Workskil Australia’s new workforce confidence survey launched this week uncovers an alarming level of pessimism among Australian job seekers.

The Work Watch Job Seeker Confidence Survey found that less than one third of unemployed job seekers are confident they will find work in the next three months.

Workskil Australia’s CEO Nicole Dwyer spoke with national media outlets, saying that cost of living pressures are also hitting the vulnerable within the community hard, with only 10% of respondents feeling positive about their current financial situation.

A touching book shining a light on nine South Australian war veterans has been produced to share stories which might’ve otherwise gone untold.

Capturing Conversations is a moving record of courage, resilience and reflection with stories ranging from tales of war to the challenges of returning to civilian life, careers, families and life after service. Each story was brought to life by a local volunteer writer to create a printed and bound book.

The project was led by Meals on Wheels SA, in partnership with the William Kibby VC Veterans Association, to strengthen community connections. It focused on building social connection, which is a key element of the organisation’s work outside the traditional meal delivery service.

Meals on Wheels SA CEO, Sharyn Broer, said Capturing Conversations had brought together unlikely friendships and people who would never have met otherwise.

“The project was as much about listening and connection as it was about remembrance,” she said.

“Every story is unique. They remind us of the human side of service and sacrifice, and the quiet contributions of those around us every day.

“We are very grateful to each veteran who shared their story and the volunteer writers who captured their histories with such kindness and dedication.”

One of the veterans’ stories – Rob de Kok by Sirina Rose – was printed in The Advertiser this week ahead of Anzac Day. A copy of the full Capturing Conversations publication can be accessed on the Meals on Wheels SA website: https://mealsonwheelssa.org.au/capturing-conversations-veterans

A visit to Goolwa to mark the expansion of a grassroots initiative making a big difference for those at risk of homelessness in the Fleurieu.

The Fleurieu Accommodation Project will grow to include at least three additional homes and a dedicated case worker following a $160k funding boost from a local community consortium. The innovative pilot uses a head lease model securing private rentals and subletting them to people who don’t have a safe or stable place to call home.

Led by Junction Australia, the initiative is backed by the Fleurieu Community Foundation, Rotary Victor Harbor, Community Bank Fleurieu, Zonta Club of the Fleurieu Peninsula and Elders Real Estate Victor Harbor.

Junction CEO Maria Palumbo said since its launch in 2024, the project has supported 32 people across four properties with the latest investment helping to scale-up impact.

“This is a targeted, innovative local solution in the midst of a dire and broader systemic challenge,” she said. “It’s a model built on trust between Junction, our valued partners who are making this possible, and the people we support.”

A major commitment from South Australia’s largest home builder will see half a million dollars awarded to groups and individuals who embody the community spirit of this state.

The $500,000 Hickinbotham Family Community Fund celebrates outstanding individuals and grassroots organisations that have made remarkable contributions to South Australian communities.

The Fund, to be allocated over five years, has been initially launched around Roseworthy and surrounding areas, complementing Hickinbotham Group’s long-standing support of the region.

Among the first recipients are Roseworthy Railway Club, featured in The Advertiser this week, and Roseworthy CFS.

We’ve been out and about in Roseworthy in recent days and the response has been fantastic. Congratulations to the Hickinbotham team!

Our team has been out and about at another playground opening – this time Sea Turtle Park at Sunset in Port Noarlunga South.

South Australian families were among the first to explore Sea Turtle Park over the weekend, with features including a 13-metre-long giant sea turtle, swings, a carousel, climbing net, slide, basketball and netball court, kickabout space, plus amenities including an electric BBQ, bike racks and casual seating areas.

The playground was officially opened by Member for Kaurna, the Hon. Chris Picton MP, Moira Were Mayor City of Onkaparinga and Hickinbotham Group Managing Director, Michael Hickinbotham.

Sunset at Port Noarlunga South is being developed in Adelaide’s south by Land Australia, part of the Hickinbotham Group, South Australia’s largest builder and developer. It is a $267 million development that will be home to 640 families when complete.

What a day! More than 1500 people attended the opening of Harvest Green Park at Roseworthy.

They were the first to try the new state-of-the-art playground which promotes adventurous play and is the centrepiece of Roseworthy’s newest residential community, Evergreen.

The playground was officially opened by Minister for Housing and Urban Development, the Hon Nick Champion MP, Mayor of Light Regional Council Bill Close and Hickinbotham Group Managing Director, Michael Hickinbotham.

Roseworthy Evergreen is being developed in Adelaide’s north by Land Australia which is part of the Hickinbotham Group, South Australia’s largest builder and developer.

Corporate Conversation was engaged to lead a media campaign and we were pleased to help secure such strong attendance. Coverage was achieved across mainstream, digital and regional media including key stories in The Advertiser (https://lnkd.in/g7nSfB79) and a glowing playground review from Kids In Adelaide (https://lnkd.in/gZj2mKJh).

Are you a zebra striper, a damp drinker or a good host? If so, you’re not alone. These trends are among the latest consumption habits of Australians, who are drinking in moderation.

While our love of a tipple shows no signs of waning, consumer purchasing decisions reflect the growing popularity of mid-strength, low-alcohol and no-alcohol (NoLo) alternatives.

Among the producers responding to changing consumer tastes is Treasury Wine Estates, which is making a major push into new varieties to tap into health-conscious drinkers.

Treasury Wine Estates convened an industry roundtable where leaders from the wine, beer, policy, research, consumer and retail sectors came together to discuss the shift to more moderate drinking habits and the growing popularity of NoLo and mid-strength alternatives. This discussion coincided with the release of an industry research paper by Treasury Wine Estates and The Australian Wine Research Institute.

Corporate Conversation was pleased to provide media engagement support for the project, resulting in extensive industry media exposure and an article highlighting Treasury Wine Estates’ innovation and success in The Australian and The Advertiser: https://lnkd.in/grdRDAw8
