My main lesson from 2022

At the beginning of the year a had a feeling that this year would have so much growth.
And that was very true!

My biggest lesson from this year is:

Give energy to what needs it the most.

Being a business owner is so tricky, stuff happens in life and you have to deal with it and for me that meant laying low in my business until I had the right energy to give back into it. Sometimes your family, friends, partners, and life needs 100% and its okay to give less to your business in those times.

It was hard to do but the best lesson to learn. When it was time I got back up and was stronger and more passionate than before.

My favourite thing about social media

I LOVE SOCIAL MEDIA (Obviously)

And my absolute favourite thing about it is the potential.

Social media is a space for making money, sharing, creating, showcasing, learning, and growing. The opportunities are endless.

With social media you can change a life, a perspective, give hope and connect with people in a way that you cannot always do in real life.

That is why it is so important to just start, take the pressure off and just enjoy the journey and the content.

Being a business owner is not a flex!

I had a friend tell me not too long ago, "Wow Gabs! I feel like you don't really show off what you do enough!"

My reply was "I don't cus it's really not that much of a flex! For me it's just who I am and I am okay with that being a private conversation."

But it really got me thinking about what she had said, so much so that I am here posting about it.

When people think about running a business they see the glamourous stuff, the stuff on social media, the wins and accomplishments the 'being your own boss', the 'overnight success'.

I see the work and the effort that has gone into that. Being a business owner means long hours, overthinking, never-ending to-do lists, compromise and sacrifice. For me, that's the cool stuff. The endless possibilities to learn, grow, and become stronger - that is the part of business that excites me.

WHAT I CAN FLEX IS the fact that this journey has made me a stronger, wiser and more passionate person and I am definitely proud of that!

What is something that you can flex?

This is going to sound RIDICULOUS… but I literally started my career because of ONE 30 second video.⁠

I’ll set the stage:⁠
⁠
There I was, 20, in my PJs, light off, phone charging, face illuminated by my phone. I was scrolling through TikTok for some source of serotonin or dopamine. ⁠
⁠
I felt stuck, and I had no idea why. I had just passed and received my diploma in Event Management, I had an amazing job in weddings which I loved (and still do today), and I could help but feel that I was FAILING at what I didn’t know, but I didn’t light up at work anymore (Hotels during a pandemic… it was rough). ⁠
⁠
And then I came across one single TikTok that changed my life. This girl was talking about social media, and it was so damn cool. Like cool as hell. I knew all about marketing in theory, but how she talked about it… it lit me up!⁠
⁠
I remember the next day thinking about it and thought, “I should study marketing” I got home, hit the books (laptop), stumbled into the business community, and looked around… what a cool place! So many people were doing cool things, and it was there I knew I wanted in!⁠
⁠
So I made a list of what I was okay at and what I was good at, what I was qualified in and what I loved and somehow mapped out a business. ⁠

Flash forward one year:⁠
⁠
- Spoke at a networking event⁠
⁠
- Have worked with 25+ businesses, teaching them how to use social media and running their accounts⁠
⁠
- Started a job at a marketing agency that allows me to learn and grow⁠
⁠
- Enrolled in university to study business and marketing⁠
⁠
- Got a university scholarship from being a young business owner⁠
⁠
- Have made so many amazing relationships from my journey and still am ⁠
⁠
- Have found a passion that keeps me up at night from excitement⁠
⁠
- Have created a business dream and set goals that I never knew I even wanted ⁠
⁠
All from 1 damn TikTok⁠
⁠
So when people say social media can change someone’s life, I freaking believe it!

Hi Friend!

I’m Gabrielle, I’m the twenty-something brains behind the operation that is Gabrielle Jean Media!

My journey started in the virtual realm when I started slowly assisting small businesses with their social media strategy and implementation as favours. One fateful evening while scrolling through my own social media, I came across a video posted by a Social Media Manager. She explained what her role entailed, as well as the many benefits, such as the freedom it gave her. Realizing this aligned with my values and the work I was already doing, Gabrielle Jean Media was founded!

My origin story starts in the beautiful Perth Hills. Growing up, I was homeschooled alongside my siblings in my childhood home. At the age of 10 years old, my parents decided to pack up shop and take me and my two other siblings travelling - this being possible with the flexibility of our education. It was on this trip where I realized I was never destined to have a 9-5 job, climbing the corporate ladder, with no flexibility or freedom to explore. No, thanks! I knew that whatever I did, I wanted the ability to move around, try new things, and grow at my own pace.

In the years 2016- 2020, I was establishing my presence in the hospitality industry and had an amazing career that had really taken off. I was working in a management role at a local cafe, and I was awarded Maitre’D at the Hospitality Youth Showcase in 2018 and worked in some amazing venues. In early 2020, I undertook a course in Event Management and Business, halfway through I had gotten a job in the industry as a wedding planner and absolutely fell in love with the industry and the people in it.

My dream now is to be an asset to as many people as I can working with people in the industry I love. doing a job that is not only rewarding but aligns with who I am and how I want to treat others!
