You’re an architect. WHY are you posting on Instagram??

No, I mean ACTUALLY why are you posting?
If you dig not-so-deep and be honest with yourself, you will admit that you’re here to be found by a potential client. And of course that’s absolutely understandable.
But then, it begs the question if you’re posting for the right person 🤔

Here’s a quick test for you: before you post, ask yourself, is this a post another architect would find fascinating, or is this a post that speaks your ideal client’s language, and brings them closer to picking up that phone or sending you that email?

If it’s full of technical language, joinery details, material specs, structural terms, that’s a post written for other architects.
If it explains the how, the why, and what it means for someone’s daily life, that’s a post written for the person who might hire you.

Hit follow, if you want to build an architectural brand that brings in the right clients!

Want to try the exact format from one of the most followed architects in Australia?
This format is of course not exclusive to Georgina Wilson at all, but you can see it at work on her account.

Here’s a fast way to start:
1. Pick one thing in your own work you would never recommend. A building style, method, a finish, a layout choice, a material.
2. Say what it is, say why you wouldn’t use it, say what you would do instead.

That’s it!

Three sentences and you’ve got a script.

Add B-roll of the thing you’re talking about, shoot on a proper camera not a phone, use continuous lighting, and get yourself an external microphone.

Suddenly your reel looks like it belongs to the million view club, because it’s using the exact same formula that’s already proven to work.
I hope this was helpful!

I know I always talk about building an architectural brand but how do you actually do it?
And most importantly WHY do you even need an architectural brand?

Well, until recently, there simply used to be less competition. For most of history, residential architecture wasn’t even accessible to the common people. Thankfully times have changed. But that also means that today you are up against architects in your city, in your state, your country and beyond.

So you must find a way to be found by the right people.
And it comes down to 5 things: authority, expertise, trust, taste and differentiation.
Together they act like a filter, letting only the right clients through.

Drop me a line if you need any help with building your architectural brand! I’d love to hear from you.

If you are an architect, and you hate posting on Instagram, I have great news for you!
Instagram is NOT the right platform for every architect.

If you’re in the luxury market, passed around the highest circles by word of mouth, you probably don’t need to build a personal brand on Instagram. A portfolio of project photos is enough. You’re already known by the right people.

Bad news though is that that’s only a tiny fraction of architects worldwide.
So for everyone else project photos don’t carry the weight anymore.
Gaining trust and building authority now happens on video.

The algorithm has been pushing video because it keeps people on the platform. That’s proof it works for viewers and for you.

This one is a little different from what I usually post but it still comes back to the same thing: how you communicate is part of your brand.

I collected 12 typical follow-up lines that quietly undermine your authority as an architect and rewrote them in an elegant way that shows a sense of leadership instead.

Vague and passive versus specific and engaged.

Your communication builds trust long before the final render does.

Hope this one is useful. Save it for your next follow-up email!
