✨ What a fabulous night celebrating small business! ✨

This year, The Glasses Lady didn’t enter the business awards, but last night The Glasses Lady & The Glasses Mister got dressed up and headed along to the Joondalup Business Awards at The Joondalup Resort, and this time, we were there purely to cheer others on. 🥰

And especially three fabulous ladies from our WE Inspire, Women Entrepreneurs of WEInspire family, who were all finalists! ❤️

We are SO incredibly proud of all three of you. You looked absolutely fabulous, and it was such a pleasure sharing the evening with you and celebrating everything you’ve achieved. 🥂

The room was filled with incredible small businesses, and I absolutely love nights like this. Behind every business is a story, the hard work, the risks, the long hours, the knockbacks and the determination to keep going.

One of the absolute highlights of the evening was hearing from Jack LeCras, who is just FOUR DAYS away from his 100th birthday… and is STILL the Treasurer of Lions! ❤️

What an incredible man. Sharp as a button, funny, inspirational and with an awesome sense of humour. I could have listened to him all night! At almost 100 years young, he certainly reminded us that age is just a number. 🥰

And I have to give a very special mention to the Overall Best Business Award winners — The Good Company & Co

I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. ❤️

What they are doing to create real employment opportunities for people with disabilities is absolutely incredible, and they are such worthy winners.

If you haven’t heard of them, please go and check them out and see what they’re achieving. Businesses like this remind us that success isn’t always just about what you build, sometimes it’s about the lives you change along the way. ❤️

Congratulations to every single finalist and winner.

Small business can be one hell of a rollercoaster, so nights like this are a wonderful reminder to stop for a moment, celebrate how far we’ve come and cheer each other on.

This incredible business deserves a HUGE shout-out! ❤️👏

Last night, The Good Company & Co won the City of Joondalup Best Business Award, and I honestly couldn’t be happier for them. 🎉

What they’ve achieved in just 8 months is incredible, but more importantly, what they’re doing is making a real difference to people’s lives — creating genuine employment opportunities for people with disabilities and showing what’s possible when people are given the opportunity to shine.

This award is so well deserved. ❤️

Congratulations to the whole team at The Good Company & Co — I have a feeling this is only the beginning for you!

A smile is ALWAYS in style 💙

Now THIS is why I love a before and after. 🥰

Same beautiful lady. Same gorgeous blue outfit. But look at what happens when we add the right glasses…

And THAT SMILE! 😍

✨ The Story Behind The Glasses Lady – Part 7
My Dream Has Only Just Begun

When I look back at everything I’ve shared with you over the past few weeks, I sometimes have to pinch myself.

I was 50 when Tim and I left Yorkshire and started again on the other side of the world. We navigated three visas, loneliness, uncertainty and an email that threatened the life we’d fought so hard to build. Then, at 57, during a global pandemic, I decided it would be a brilliant idea to start my first business! 😂

I knew optics inside out. Business, marketing and social media? I was learning as I went.

All I really knew was that I wanted to do things differently. I wanted to give people time. I wanted to listen, I wanted to care, and I wanted to show people that glasses could be so much more than something they simply needed to see.

I wanted to create transformations.

And that’s still what drives me today.

There’s a moment during a styling consultation that I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of. It’s when I find the pair. I put them on my client, they look in the mirror and something changes. The smile appears, their eyes light up, their shoulders go back and sometimes I hear…

“Oh my goodness… is that really me?”

That’s my happy place.

It’s that moment I see their confidence shining through. They don’t need to say anything — I can see it in their face, their smile and the way they suddenly hold themselves.

That’s the transformation I love.

Since those early days, my little business has grown beyond anything I could have imagined. I’ve styled people across Australia and around the world, worked alongside incredible Australian frame makers, met some of the most wonderful people and received recognition and awards I never dreamed would have my name on them.

But do you know what I’m proudest of?

My clients.

The woman who walked through my door telling me she’d always hated wearing glasses and left excited about wearing them. The man who’d spent years choosing the safest, most ordinary frames because he didn’t think glasses could actually make him look and feel good… until he discovered something completely different.

The person who’d always hidden behind their glasses and suddenly discovered the confidence to wear colour. The client who stepped completely outside their comfort zone, looked in the mirror and couldn’t stop smiling.

Then there are the messages, the photographs, the hugs, the happy tears and the friendships that have grown from doing something I absolutely love.

Those are my awards.

And now, at 63, am I thinking about slowing down?

Not a chance! 😂

If anything, I feel like I’m just getting started.

There are more people I want to help, more incredible eyewear I want to discover, more colours I want to play with and so many more transformations waiting to happen.

And believe me, there are still plenty of ideas buzzing around this Yorkshire girl’s head!

When I started this business, I simply wanted to provide a service my way — with time, honesty, kindness and genuine care.

I never imagined where it would take me.

So thank you to every single person who has trusted me with their face, their vision and, most importantly, their confidence. Thank you to everyone who has recommended me, shared my posts, cheered me on or simply told someone…

“You need to go and see The Glasses Lady.”

You helped turn an idea born during one of the most uncertain times in our lives into something I could never have imagined.

And the funny thing is, after everything I’ve achieved and everything we’ve been through, I don’t feel like I’ve reached the end of my story.

Quite the opposite.

I feel like I’m standing at the beginning of the next chapter.

💜 My dream has only just begun.

And I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.

OK, I’m curious… what season are you? 🌸☀️🍂❄️

Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter?

I’m seeing more and more of my clients having their colours done, and I LOVE it because it gives me even more to play with when we’re choosing glasses. 👓

But here’s the fun bit…

Just because a colour is in your season doesn’t mean every shade of it is going to look fabulous on you.

Take this gorgeous teal frame. 💚
On the right person, this colour could make their eyes absolutely POP and bring their whole face to life.

And that’s the bit I love — finding your shade, not just a shade.

A thinner rim can still have plenty of presence 💜

I love a frame that makes a statement without taking over your face, and this one does exactly that.

The finer rim keeps it light and elegant, but that gorgeous shape gives it personality. And then there’s the purple… 💜

Not just any purple — the right shade of purple.

Look at what it does to her eyes! It picks up those beautiful cool tones and makes them absolutely pop, while working perfectly with her hair, makeup and accessories.

This is why I’m always talking about colour 😂 The right colour sitting next to your eyes can make such a difference.

You don’t always need a big, chunky frame to make an impact. Sometimes it’s all about the shape, the colour and getting that balance just right.
