Formosa Jennifer Falkner

Formosa Jennifer Falkner Original illustrations by Perth-based designer Jennifer Falkner. Jennifer creates illustrations that are used in her textile designs, and children's books.

Formosa design was born from the collision of a career in illustration and escapes into the Australian wilderness. Formosa’s inspiration comes from the feeling you get zipping open a tent and watching dawn mist clear over a forested valley in New South Wales’ Budawang Range or Perongerups in WA.

✨It’s publication day for Fairy Forest! ✨ You can now find it at your favourite bookstore or online 📚❤️

I hope children get as much pleasure reading it as I did illustrating it. Beautifully written by Sheila Knaggs and published by Affirm Press, Fairy Forest is the follow up to bestselling Fairy Beach. ✨

‘They brave the backs of brumbies
under new dawn citrus skies’
- Sheila Knaggs, Fairy Forest

I loved illustrating this evocative line written by .knaggs 🐴☀️ I imagined using the dust the brumbies kicked up to show energy and joy as the sun rose.

I’m super excited to share the cover of Fairy Forest! ✨🌿 Written by the wonderful .knaggs and published by the lovely folks at Fairy Forest is the follow up book to Fairy Beach.

Set in the Australian bush at night, I had a lot of fun using watercolours and photoshop to illustrate teeny tiny fairies antics among our native flora.

It is available to preorder now and will be released April 28th.🌚🌱

Can you guess which animal takes the title for world’s toughest survivor?

They’ve been found living atop of the world’s highest mountains, the deepest oceans and have survived 10 days exposed to the hazards of space.

They are older than the dinosaurs.

Crocodile? Mosquito? Cockroach? Nope.

It’s the Tardigrade! And it’s publication day for Tardigrades: Nature’s Toughest Survivors written by and published by 📕🎉

🥚It’s PUBLICATION DAY for The Cheeky Toddler Alphabet written by Davina Bell .bell and published by Hachette Australia 🐣

I love illustrating stories that personally resonate with me, and the way Davina manages to sum up the highs and the lows of being a parent to a toddler so neatly into a 32 page picture book is nothing short of BRILLIANT.

I will share more of this book soon but for now here a picture of the front cover. It’s available in stores from TODAY!

A BIG thank you to Emma Rafferty, Jeanmarie Morosin, Kirby Armstrong and the whole team at for all their hard work. Also an extra shout out to to my agents Nicky Lander and Ilaria Vigilante from the for all they do for me ❤️

It feels wonderful to be back behind a paintbrush again.

But before I can start this new work chapter, I owe many of you an explanation for why I abruptly closed Formosa 5 years ago.

For a long time I tried to balance Formosa with having my first child. I remember that crazy year in hazy snippets … composing work emails from the hospital labour ward, creating an entire new collection while wearing my son in an baby carrier on my chest, and always praying his naps would go on 5 minutes longer so I could finish sending out orders … there is no maternity leave for sole entrepreneurs. The final crunch came when my husband’s work required us to move to Singapore. It was awfully painful decision but for sake of my family, my mental and physical health, I had to put Formosa on ice. Suddenly Quentin Bryce’s quote 'You can have it all, but not all at the same time’ became my new mantra.
So here I am, my boys are now in pre-kindy and school, and I'm very excited to get creating again.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on illustrating a book with writer Holly Johnson that helps children deal with anxiety. It’s a gorgeous project, and I’m in bliss working with pencil and gouche everyday. X Jenny

I am so excited to be posting the first glimpse of my children's book, The Happiness Seed. It is a story about a little girls journey to find her inner happiness. The beautiful illustrations are done by Jennifer Falkner.

Hello all,

I’m back from Singapore and from my 4 year hiatus! In that time I had my two lovely babies Patrick and James and enjoyed focusing on them, now they are older, I can sneak some creative work in.

I still have a little bit of leftover stock, so I will be at the Perth Upmarket this Sunday 25/11. It’s 10-4pm at Winthrop Hall UWA. I will have a ‘BUY ONE GET ONE FREE’ deal going! If you can’t make it, email me to get in on the bargain.

Bye for now
Jenny
