Breaking news...
We’re incredibly proud to share that bureau42’s Head of Search, Richard Wassell, has been selected as one of only three finalists for the Courage Award at the 2026 National Stroke Awards.
Richard experienced a stroke in 1994 while serving aboard a Royal Australian Navy submarine. Since then, he has continually challenged perceptions of what is possible.
Richard has represented Australia at the Invictus Games, competed at World Championships in indoor rowing and set multiple world and Australian rowing records.
His achievements also extend beyond rowing. Richard has completed the gruelling 46-kilometre Six-Foot Track and won a silver medal at the Australian Marathon Championships. He has also used his experience to advocate for greater inclusion in adaptive sport and encourage others facing the challenges of life after stroke.
Anyone who knows Richard will recognise the courage, resilience, discipline and generosity he brings to everything he does. These qualities are evident in the support and leadership he provides to his colleagues, clients and community.
Adding to an already remarkable year, Richard was recently selected to represent Team Australia at the Invictus Australia Sports Festival 2026, taking place in Perth from 22 to 26 October.
The National Stroke Awards recognise courageous and inspiring Australians, including stroke survivors, carers, volunteers, health professionals, researchers, fundraisers and advocates. This year’s ceremony will be particularly special as part of the Stroke Foundation’s 30th Anniversary celebrations in Melbourne on 15 October.
Being named a national finalist is an extraordinary and thoroughly deserved achievement.
Congratulations, Richard. Everyone at bureau42 is immensely proud of you and we can't wait to cheer you on in October! 💙
