Aspect ratio and cropping is something that catches a lot of people out. Not just beginners, photographers of all levels of experience.
If you’ve bought a frame and it is a different aspect ratio to your image, we need to do something to make it fit.
The three most common approaches are:

Option A)
We crop the photo to fit. Some of the content will get cut off! Sometimes this is great and adds to the shot but it can mean that Uncle Jim and Aunt Gladys are cut off the ends of the family portrait.

Option 😎
We make your image smaller than the frame and use a matboard. This can look pretty smart and we have lots of matboard sizes ready to go. If it’s a weird one, our framer, Chris can cut one custom for you.

Option C)
A personal favourite, we make the image smaller than the frame and utilise a ‘photo border’ or white border around the image to fill the frame. The size of this border varies on frame size but it can be just what an image needs to look nice and finished without being ‘boxed in’
The paper we use has a gorgeous texture too which really lends itself to being used as a border.

Proofing time with Bella Austin
In case it isn’t blatantly obvious from the prints, Bella is a crazy good underwater photographer up in Exmouth.
Prints are a mix of A4 and A3, some mounted in our ‘Ready To Go’ matboards, some loose prints.
Printed on my favourite paper from Textured Cotton Rag 310gsm.

How good does this look!
Custom canvas for Matt , a super nice pic from his Moroccan adventures.
Printed between A2 and A1 on Canson PhotoArt Canvas looking ever so perfect in the morning sun through the gallery window this morning.
To finish Matt’s work, we’ve framed the stretched canvas in an Aussie oak frame which I think really looks hot.

Ever so stoked for my dear friend and long term client whose latest exhibition titled Binalup, Menang | First Light, First People, opened at Albany Town Hall on Friday night.
Nic’s work is nothing short of phenomenal. The care, love and attention she puts in is evident in every single portrait.
If you’re down south over the next four weeks, you must stop into the town hall at 217 York St, Albany.
The exhibition runs until July 26th.
Massive high five to for backing me in supporting Nic’s project. You guys are absolute legends!

Today I learnt a thing!
I had no idea that on the customer side of our payment portal, you have the option to store your credit card for charging your Perth Pro Lab invoices to!
I will make use of this great feature if you’ve opted in.
PSA: Card details aren’t stored by Perth Pro Lab, they’re securely encrypted within the Square system.
Thanks to those that have opted in and I’ll be checking from now on rather than sending you reminders!
