I stood on a jetty at Hillarys Boat Harbour lined with wheelchairs and fishing rods.

Fishability gets people with disability out fishing, and the people on that jetty were doing exactly that.

I was there to capture it for Access Tours. The camera went up on the tripod, and we photographed the jetty, the paths and the spaces around them, so anyone thinking about coming can see what's there before they leave home. That means the surfaces, the widths and the distances.

"Accessible" on a website doesn't tell anyone much. Being able to see it does.

Thanks to the Fishability team and everyone on the jetty for letting us be part of the day.

A venue can tick every accessibility box and still leave visitors guessing about where to go.

That's not us saying it. That's Nick Morris, OAM, Paralympian and Universal Design expert:

"A venue can tick every accessibility box and still leave visitors guessing about where to go. Access Tours fixes that by highlighting real accessibility details of facilities and precincts such as parking, seamless and step free pathways to entrances, toilets and the key features.

For patrons with accessibility needs, having security of movement before you even arrive, often removes the biggest barrier to booking: uncertainty. For venues, it's a business advantage, not a compliance cost. More than 30% of the population and their family require accessibility at any one point in time. Access Tours elevates the accessibility experience for these people."

Read that last line again. More than 30% of the population, and their family, at any one point in time.

That's not a niche market. That's a direct-booking strategy most Queensland venues preparing for 2032 haven't touched yet, because they're solving for ramps and grab rails, not for the moment someone decides whether to book at all.

Ticking the box isn't the finish line. Showing the visitor the box got ticked is.

Thousands of athletes, support crews, carers and spectators with access needs will travel across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and regional Queensland. They will book hotels. They will eat at restaurants. They will visit attractions before and after events.

Most of those venues have no idea whether their front door, their parking, or their bathroom will answer the one question that actually decides a booking: can I get in and use this place without a surprise.

The Games are six years out. The venues that map their accessibility now, not in 2031, are the ones that capture that booking window first. This isn't a compliance story. It's a $29 billion travel market deciding where to spend, years before the opening ceremony.

๐ŸšจBREAKING๐ŸšจWe (Access Tours) are very proud to announce our new partnership with Fishability!!

Hillary's is live: accessible parking, toilet, kerb ramp, jetty, the path to the fishing deck โ€” all mapped so participants, families and support workers can see the site before session day, not guess on the day.

This is our first accessible virtual tour for Fishability, with more locations being added as we go.

Is there a step at the door? https://accesstours.ai/viewer?key=motor-museum-of-western-australia

Most venues can't answer that until you've already driven there.

The Motor Museum of Western Australia just made it answerable before anyone leaves the house. Museum entrance marked, door width labelled at 86cm, full navigation controls including captions, voiceover and keyboard access, all inside the tour, not buried in a PDF.

That's the difference between a standard tour and an Access Tour. One shows you the building. The other tells you if you can actually get in.

โ€ข Is there a step at the front door?
โ€ข Where's the accessible parking, and how far is it from the entrance?
โ€ข Is the toilet roll-in, or just a grab rail?
โ€ข Where are the exits if something goes wrong?

Most venues answer these on the day. We just answered them before anyone left the house. โ™ฟ๏ธ

The new Access Tours experience for the Motor Museum of Western Australia now shows:
โ€ข Emergency information and points of interest, marked in place
โ€ข Door and path widths, so you know before you roll up
โ€ข Accessible parking, marked and measured
โ€ข Accessible toilets and exits
โ€ข A full contrast and display control panel, built the same way a screen reader or accessible browser works

Take the quiz - One in five customers is deciding right now whether your venue is worth the risk. https://quiz.accesstours.com.au/venuequiz

Not your competitor's price. Not your reviews. The risk of showing up and finding out your venue doesn't work for them.

One in five Australians lives with disability. That's not a niche audience. That's a fifth of everyone who's ever looked at your website and hesitated.

Here's what they're weighing before they ever pick up the phone.

โ€ข Is there a step at the front door?
โ€ข Where's the accessible parking, and is it actually close, or across the car park?
โ€ข Is the bathroom roll-in, or just a grab rail by a standard toilet?
โ€ข Is there a lift, and is it working today?

Your website doesn't answer any of it. So they do the maths themselves. Best case, it's fine and they've wasted a trip finding out. Worst case, there's a step nobody mentioned, and now they're standing at your entrance, working out how to leave without making a scene.

That's not inclusion. That's anxiety dressed up as a visit.

Most venues think this is a compliance problem. It's not. It's a booking problem.

When someone can see the step-free route, the parking, the toilet, before they call, they stop gambling on your listing. They stop guessing. They book.

That's what we build at Access Tours. Not a PDF that summarises your accessibility. A real 360-degree walkthrough of your venue, mapped for the questions people are actually asking.

Museums attract exactly the visitors most venues forget to plan for. Older visitors. Wheelchair users. People with prams. Visitors with low vision.

And most of them won't risk a visit they can't picture in advance.

Is there a step? Is the toilet actually roll-in? Are the doors wide enough? Where's the nearest seat? Where's the exit?

Most venues answer none of it. So visitors don't book, or someone calls ahead and hopes for the best.

The Motor Museum of Western Australia isn't waiting to find out the hard way.

Coming soon: an accessible virtual tour with door widths, toilets, seating, feature points and emergency exits mapped directly into the walkthrough, so visitors can see it before they arrive.

That's the difference between hoping a venue works for you, and knowing it does.
