It was great to be part of Issue 7 of magazine, a love letter to WA, 2024 home design trends and, of course, some of BGC Home’s latest abodes that will have you wanting to sell up and build a fresh new home with them! 🏡

Can’t wait to get my hands on a glossy copy of the print publication later this week! 📰

If you’d like to check it out, the magazine is also available to read online for free via their website.

Let me know what you think 🤍

5 YEARS! 🎈

This week marks 5 years since I resigned from my role in Perth media and publishing as an editor and journalist to start my business Fabri Communications, a boutique agency helping business owners and marketing managers Australia-wide with their online (and print) content.

I might be very quiet on here 😅 but it’s been a BUSY 5 years behind the scenes working closely with my incredible clients to help them grow their businesses.

I feel so fortunate to partner with brands across many industries — mining, health, hospitality, beauty, homes and design, construction, weddings, education and many more — helping them with organic social media management and content creation, email marketing, corporate communications, website copy, blogs and articles, and public relations. 📲📰📧📝💻

Thanks to everyone who has supported me in this journey! 🤍

If you’re interested in working together in 2024, let’s chat, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks to for these new branding pics 🥰📸

Today I wanted to share some kind words from one of my former clients the lovely Jarek and Lauren from 🫶

Last year I was approached by the Modalis team for a social media strategy session to kick start their marketing campaign for their WA TMS clinics.

Their goal was always to manage their social media in-house but they decided to appoint us to lead the way and manage their social media for four months and provide guidance and training along the way and templates so they could feel comfortable to take this over in-house.

It’s been several months now of Modalis running their own socials and I am BEYOND proud! 😍👏🏻You guys are doing so well and it’s great that your brand name is getting out there in Perth so people can learn more about the incredible work you’re doing to help people with treatment-resistant depression, pain, OCD, tinnitus and more.

👉🏽If you’d like to book in a social media audit and strategy session, I’ve got some openings for late March. Send me a DM or email for further details. 🗓️

Merry Christmas everyone! 🤍

I’m officially signing off at 12pm today for the long weekend, and looking forward to sippin’ on a Spritz or two this afternoon and spending quality time with family, friends and my little chihuahua Romeo. 🐕

BUT, I will be back at it next week continuing to create content for my incredible clients so if you’re also working throughout the break or using the time to plan your marketing material for 2023, my inbox will be open and I’ll be around for a chat!

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank my beautiful clients for another amazing year! 🥰

It gives me so much fulfillment being right there with you on your journey, celebrating your wins and watching your business grow. 🚀

It’s been a big year of business for me. I may not post on here a lot (sorry, I really want to make more time for my own socials next year 😅) but it has been a massive year of website copy, blogs, email marketing, corporate comms and all things socials. I also joined a business networking group, which I’m loving!

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas holidays. Thanks again for all your support in 2022!

Much love,

Elizabeth

”What comes first, the copy or design?” 💻

We have been asked this question quite a few times this last month so I thought I’d share my views with you all.

Every website is going to be different and the approach and strategy for your site should be tailored to your business to achieve your desired objectives.

We work with businesses that have already engaged a web developer/designer and need some copy to fill in the Lorem Ipsum placeholder text in the design mock-up.

And businesses that come to us first to help devise a plan for the site and write the copy before beginning the design process.

👉🏽There is no hard or fast rule, but we are of the view engaging a copywriter should be the first step in your journey with design to follow to complement the brand messaging, the call to actions you need, and level of detail that is required for certain sections.

The words, ultimately, are the heart of your website and will get people to take the next step with your business. Design is important but without the right copy (or *enough* SEO-optimized copy) it’s just decoration.

From my experience, most web developers do like to have all your visual assets (logo, branding colours, photos) and words (copy) before they commence the design so they know what they’re working with.

Some are also happy to take the lead with the site strategy and prefer the freedom to create a website design and let the copywriter know how much content they need.

At Fabri Communications, we’re happy to work with you no matter what stage of the project you’re at. If you have any questions about your website, we’re always up for a chat! Email us at [email protected]

👀I would love to know your experience and what has worked for you? Did you do web design or copy first for your website?

Blogs have been our most requested service this week 👏🏻✍🏼

As a business owner or marketing manager it should be your goal to position your brand as an authority in your industry by sharing high-quality long-form content across your website, socials and email marketing.

Today we share some quick tips to writing an engaging blog article:

💡Topic selection is key. Ask yourself is the subject matter going to be helpful and is it interesting? What is the shelf life of this content also? Is it timely or evergreen?

👀What is the purpose of this blog? Promoting a particular product or service? Social proof? Get real clear on what you strategically want it to achieve.

💥Write a click-worthy headline! Proven headline formulas use power words, numbers, and aren’t too long.

🪝Include a strong intro (hook) that grabs your readers attention from the get go.

🗣Always keep your target audience in mind and be consistent with your brand voice.

📝Use subheadings to break up your content - it should be scannable and easy to get through.

📷Use relevant visuals to break up the copy.

💻Don’t forget to use SEO keywords throughout.

🔗Hyperlink content to external websites ie the source of your information. You’ll also want to interlink to other pages within your site when referencing a product or service.

👏🏻Make sure you fact check everything and attribute all quotes and research to back up your claims.

▪️Use bullet points/lists to make the copy easier to read in areas.

😍End with a clear call to action.

People buy from PEOPLE 👥💸⠀

‘Humanising’ your brand should be a focus no matter if you’re a product or service-based business, solo entrepreneur or large corporation.

The truth is, your ideal client will want some level of human connection before making an investment decision. They’ll want to get a good feel for who you are and establish a level of trust towards your brand before they decide to proceed.

So how do you do this without having the opportunity to meet with all of your potential clients in person?

👉🏽You need to be able to build that trust and connection through your content - written and visual.

That means you should be:⠀
◽️Showing your face on your website and social media with professional photography. Sharing images of the team, employee milestones and company culture style posts.

◽️Investing in lifestyle shots showing real people enjoying your products rather than the typical Ecom images and flatlays. You may also utilize user generated content or influencer marketing.

◽️ Forget stale third-person copy, and speak DIRECT to your audience. Remove the she/he/they/it and replace with I/we/our/you. Conversational copy is so important and will set you apart.

◽️ Have a dedicated About page on your website that tells the reader more than what you do and when you founded your business. Let it tell a story and give a real positive insight into who you are and WHY you do what you do, what you stand for (brand values), how you can help and any other interesting mentions.

◽️ Invest the time in engaging videos - BTS stories, on-brand Reels 🎥 , educating your audience, answering FAQs.

◽️ Sprinkle your brand personality (tone of voice) into all the places you might forget: Error 404 page, Contact page, emails, order confirmations, even your 1:1 correspondence.

◽️ Be consistent with your organic marketing. Most people need time to make a purchasing decision. This is why social media and emails are such a great way to nurture an audience.

◽️ Share testimonials

◽️ Engage and interact with customers: ie replying and leaving genuine comments on your existing audience posts as well as aligned individuals outside your network.

Everyone makes mistakes….
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The brain can play tricks on all of us, and no matter how many times you read over your copy, you might miss a typo. ✍🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re all human after all!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is why engaging a proofreader/copyeditor to cast a second pair of *trained* eyes over your work is always a great step before going LIVE or sending your document to print.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This doesn’t need to be for everything: only the important client/customer facing content, such as your website copy, book, print marketing collateral, capability statements and reports.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the last month, we have done quite a bit of copyediting for a book written by another marketing agency as well as proofreading a manuscript about Indigenous communities in remote Australia.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If proofreading or copyediting isn’t in your budget, that’s ok. There are plenty of helpful apps that can polish up your content including:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏽Grammarly
👉🏽Hemingway editor
👉🏽Google docs

For those that like to DIY, printing out the document and editing it physically with a red pen is also a really great way to spot errors. 👀

If you’ve got an important document you’d like a professional (human) proofreader to look over, feel free to send it over to [email protected] and we can provide a free quote ☺️

You may have heard of the saying ‘you shouldn’t put all your marketing eggs in one basket’…🧺

It’s thrown around a lot in the marketing world, but this is for good reason. Because what happens if:

👉🏽You don’t have the funds to keep pouring $$$ into paid social or Google ads, and the enquiries come to a screeching halt when you hit pause, as there is no organic content strategy or SEO in place
👉🏽 Your email newsletters are ending up in the Junk folder of your customers’ inbox
👉🏽 Your social media account gets hacked and you’re locked out (if you haven’t done so already please set up two-factor authentication!)
👉🏽 Users migrate to another social platform that’s trending and your content is no longer being seen as frequently
👉🏽 The algorithm on socials limits your reach (this is already happening on Instagram)

These are, of course, worse case scenarios. But they do happen. Which is why, in an ideal world you will be working a few different marketing avenues to get a healthy and consistent flow of enquiries, sales, bookings etc.

So what marketing avenues should you be using to land more customers? How many do you need to focus on? 🤯

Here are some options you might consider.

[ ] Organic social media content across Instagram/Facebook/TikTok/LinkedIn/YouTube
[ ] Paid media across socials
[ ] Google ads
[ ] Influencer marketing
[ ] Search engine optimization
[ ] Email marketing
[ ] Blogs & white papers
[ ] Networking & referrals
[ ] Traditional print and broadcast advertising
[ ] Sponsorships & Events
[ ] PR campaigns
[ ] Podcast

It’s important to remember, you don’t need to be doing all of these. We suggest picking 3 or so. 1-2 will be the money-makers. It’s also good to future proof your business and have other channels you’re using to fall back on if things don’t go to plan or you need to diversify.

What’s the most effective marketing avenue for your business?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We loved working with mining research organisation CRC ORE to help them get the word out about their Future Research Program with CSIRO via an email to stakeholders and a PR campaign to key contacts in Australian media.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The story got picked up by a number of major mining publications including MiningNews.Net, Stockhead, Australian Mining, Paydirt and many more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We also helped CRC ORE refine some of the messaging on their website now their government funded term has come to an end.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💬Here are some kind word from CRC ORE below:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Elizabeth was recommended by a previous colleague when I needed help with a number of communications activities such as media campaign, email and copy edits for our website. Elizabeth was very responsive, completely understood the brief and delivered on time, every time. Her level of understanding and professionalism was exactly what I needed. I highly recommend her.” — CRC ORE business manager Sue Campbell
