We were delighted to welcome the Booking.com team and eight leading travel journalists from across the Asia-Pacific region to Port Douglas and the Daintree last week, following the exciting announcement that Port Douglas had been named one of Booking.com's Top 10 Globally Trending Destinations.

Over four days, the group immersed themselves in the very best of Port Douglas and the Daintree, exploring our world-class reef and rainforest experiences, discovering our boutique shops, galleries and cafés in their "Shelf-ie Souvenirs tour", meeting passionate local operators, and enjoying the incredible dining experiences that make our region so special.

As part of the visit, Booking.com hosted a destination presentation and industry panel discussion featuring Elissa Keenan, CEO of Ecotourism Australia, Todd Lacey and Simon Westaway from Booking.com, and TPDD Executive Officer Emma Tunnock. The discussion explored sustainable tourism, evolving traveller trends, and the unique experiences that continue to position Port Douglas and the Daintree as one of the world's most desirable destinations.

A huge thank you to the team at Booking.com for their ongoing support and investment in our region, and to the many local tourism operators and businesses who helped showcase the very best of the destination throughout the visit.

We look forward to seeing the stories and inspiration that emerge from this incredible experience and sharing Port Douglas and the Daintree with even more travellers around the world.

A big thank you also goes to Tourism Tropical North Queensland for supporting this incredible opportunity!

We’re incredibly proud to share that Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation have both finished on the podium at the 2026 Queensland Top Tourism Town Awards hosted by Queensland Tourism Industry Council - QTIC

Port Douglas was awarded Silver in the Top Small Tourism Town category, while Cape Tribulation took home Bronze in the Top Tiny Tourism Town category.

While we didn't quite take home Gold this time, we're incredibly proud to stand alongside some of Queensland's best tourism destinations. And if you ask us, we know we've got the best tourism towns, experiences and operators anywhere in the country.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the awards, voted, shared the campaign and continues to champion our destination.

We'll be back next year. 💪

May has been an incredible month for our destination, with a strong calendar of trade famils helping to showcase everything Port Douglas and the Daintree have to offer.

Last week, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree proudly delivered the Port Douglas Daintree Signature Famil in partnership with Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Cairns Airport, welcoming 15 travel agents and product managers from Helloworld, Flight Centre, Ignite – My Queensland Holiday, and Luxury Escapes.

The program commenced with a trade workshop at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas, where agents met with 15 local tourism operators in a series of one-on-one appointments.

Following the workshop, participants were divided into three bespoke itineraries designed to showcase the diverse experiences, accomodation, attractions, and natural beauty of our destination.

The feedback from agents and product managers has been overwhelmingly positive. One of the strongest themes to emerge was surprise at the sheer breadth of experiences available throughout the region. Many participants commented that Port Douglas and the Daintree should be sold as a destination for at least 5–7 days, allowing visitors enough time to fully immerse themselves in the diverse range of experiences on offer, from the reef and rainforest to wildlife, wellness, food, culture, and adventure.

A huge thank you to all the operators, accommodation providers and industry partners who contributed to the success of this famil. Together, we continue to build awareness, strengthen trade relationships and drive future visitation to our destination.

Big week for Douglas.

While Port Douglas Carnivale brought huge energy into the destination this week, including a number of sell out events across the program, there was also important longer-term news for the region with the Queensland Government announcing a feasibility study into a proposed marine industry precinct for the Douglas Shire.

TPDD was proud to be part of the recent delegation to Brisbane alongside Douglas Shire Council and local industry representatives, where we spoke with key State Government representatives, including Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, about the importance of the marine industry to Port Douglas and the broader Douglas economy.

The marine tourism industry is the heart and soul of Port Douglas, and investment into this sector matters.

A modern marine industry precinct has the potential to deliver critical infrastructure that currently does not exist locally, - enabling vessels to be serviced, repaired and maintained within the Douglas Shire - while also sending a strong signal of confidence in the future of the Port Douglas economy and encouraging the right long-term investment into the region.

Special acknowledgement should also go to John Morris whose leadership and advocacy has been instrumental in helping progress this opportunity for the region.

At the same time, Port Douglas Carnivale once again showed the important role events play in driving visitation and activity across the destination.

Encouragingly, Localis aggregated accommodation data is currently showing:
• occupancy up more than 7% across the Carnivale fortnight
• and on-the-books occupancy pacing around 5% ahead of the same period last year across the next three months

After a tough start to the year for many operators, it’s positive to see some momentum building again.

Congratulations to Douglas Shire Council for once again delivering another fantastic Port Douglas Carnivale.

And to everyone continuing to back the future of Douglas - thank you.🙏

The Daintree is Calling. Answer. 🌿

We’ve officially launched a new destination campaign encouraging locals and visitors alike to visit, experience and stay in the Daintree this May and June.

Timed perfectly in the lead up to Port Douglas Carnivale, the campaign also encourages Far North Queensland locals to make the most of the free ferry initiative through the Douglas Card and rediscover one of the world’s most extraordinary places, right here in our own backyard.

From rainforest walks and river cruises to cafés, lodges and reef adventures departing Cape Tribulation, there is simply too much to see and do in a single day.

Go on… stay a night or two 💚
