Yay I’m finally seeing the new “AI Assistant” traffic channel in GA4 👀

This includes traffic from the likes of ChatGPT, Gemini (but not Google’s AI Mode or Overviews), Claude, Perplexity, etc 🤖

Have you checked your account yet? If you’re not seeing it, don’t stress, it’ll show up soon.

And if it doesn’t, then perhaps you’re not getting traffic from AI Assistants 🤷‍♀️

If that’s the case, it might be worth checking you can actually be found via the likes of ChatGPT 😉 Pop me a DM if you’re struggling.

Pro tip: Add an extra column for source/medium to see the specific AI Assistant or Landing Page to see what pages are getting the traffic 🍾

Australia’s first ever Google Search Central Live event happened on Friday and I was there!

Front row actually 🤓

I LOVED it. A lot of amazing minds and delicious brain food that I am still chewing over.

To hear from the likes of Cherry Sireetorn Prommawin, Gary Illyes and Daniel Waisberg was a privilege and let’s just say it’s an interesting time to be an SEO!

A few of my favourite pieces of wisdom from the day include:

🔍 AI is growing the search pie and people are using Google Search more than ever

🔍 Yes less clicks to websites are happening, but those clicks bring higher intent audiences to your website

🔍 Search is evolving yet SEO fundamentals remain the heart of achieving the best results

🔍 We need to move on from commodity content and bring creativity into our website content

🔍 You should use AI but use it responsibly - don’t just add to the sea of AI slop

🔍 ALT Text = The most important signal for Google to help understand your images

🔍 Yes data across Google Trends, Google Search Console (always based on Californian time except the 24 hour report is in your time zone) and Google Analytics differs - they all bring a different perspective to your data

🔍 81% of social media users use Google Search to inform and evaluate products discovered on social media

🎤 And my final takeaway - SEO is not dead, in fact it’s more alive than ever.

Google finally dropped their official AI Optimisation Guide, and to say I’m excited is an understatement!

Finally everyone can stop stressing over “AEO/GEO hacks” and focus on just doing SEO well 😜

I have already read through the new documentation a number of times. The tl;dr?

You don’t need to learn a new language to rank in Google’s AI Overviews or AI Mode.

Google in fact wants you to double down on what works:

✨ Solid, foundational SEO.

✨ Non-commodity content (stuff based on your unique, firsthand experience that AI can’t replicate).

✨ Setting up your Google Business Profile and/or Merchant Center.

Stop trying to write for the robots, and start leaning heavily into your human perspective.
