My husband Luke Meeve bought a pair of shoes online last week and when he opened the box he found something unexpected. A handwritten note from the founder.

Not a printed, generic card but a real message thanking him for his purchase. It was a small gesture but had a big impact because it felt genuine.

It reminded me of something that can be forgotten as businesses grow. While personal connection may feel harder, it still matters. The message is always stronger when it’s meant for someone, not everyone.

Mass communication is easy. Purposeful and meaningful communication takes more effort, but this is where you build the real stuff - connection, trust and loyalty.

I haven’t popped up on here for a while, and when I have it’s mainly been to share my travel and lifestyle writing. But the truth is, while it’s a huge passion, it’s only one of many hats I (love to) wear. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of working with many wonderful people from a variety of companies.

Meeting up with an old colleague last week made me realise what sets my approach apart is bringing all these hats together—marketing, communications, brand strategy, account management, stakeholder engagement, budget management and, of course, my writing skills.

I haven’t shared much of that work here, but with the end of the year in sight, it feels like the right time to offer a glimpse. Perhaps there’s a project (or something ongoing) where my skill set could add value to your business.

Here’s a small snapshot of what I’ve been up to this year:

📈 Got the word out about a new sustainable and inclusive accommodation platform, handling the marcomms and PR for its pre-launch phase.

🖥️ Took on a significant website overhaul for a large organisation —redesigning 25 pages to make the user experience smoother and more intuitive while ensuring it felt true to the brand.

📚 Developed comms plans for a new education initiative in the health sector, ensuring the messaging resonated with the organisation’s goals and its member audience.

🎤 Crafted elevator pitches (yes, they’re still a thing!) and fresh B2C messaging to connect and share their updated value propositions.

📊 Ran an industry survey project end-to-end, then dug into the data to write a white paper that pulls out insights the industry can actually use.

📅 Supported event marketing for an industry association— to boost visibility, engagement and sales.

🎓 Continued my role as a Sessional Academic at Deakin University, supporting the next generation of communicators.

While I should probably have a more “professional” photo of me at my desk to grab attention, here’s me in a plane on a recent travel famil flying over to K’gari island— way cooler, right?

🛫 *WORK TRAVEL* 🛬

I’m flying to one state for few nights. My husband is already in another. Our kids are back at home.

Managing work and family can’t always be done by splitting responsibilities between two working parents. We also rely on the incredible support network around us. I’m deeply appreciative of my who make this possible.

When you say yes more often than no, you invite a world of unexpected and fun opportunities 🙌

This is me having just jumped off ABC radio, being interviewed about multigenerational travel (yes, wired earphones because I don’t trust bluetooth for live interviews!)

Who would have ever thought I’d be sharing my thoughts with Ellen Fanning on drive time radio and speaking with listeners who dialled in to share their own stories.

As I said on radio, “If you haven’t already, just do it!”

In today’s Age / Sydney Morning Herald ✈️🧳

“Before you panic and imagine the many ways in which this would be your holiday from hell, let me be clear: To those in the middle generation, your parents won’t enforce your bedtime. To older family members, this isn’t about being built-in babysitters.”

I can’t recall how I first discovered Reaching Out before starting my solo adventure in Vietnam. My travel research often leads me to obscure corners of the web as I aim to connect more deeply with local culture and support local businesses.

However, this place deserves to be in the spotlight.

Reaching Out is a social enterprise that supports individuals with disabilities. One of their initiatives is a teahouse where people who are deaf or hard of hearing can find meaningful employment that might otherwise be difficult to secure.

What sets this teahouse apart is its silence. Guests are encouraged to refrain from talking and instead embrace quiet contemplation.

Thank you to Explore for featuring my silent coffee tasting experience in Saturday’s papers.

If you’re heading to Hoi An, be sure to add this to your list! ❤️

What a way to spend a Friday 📚 ❤️

As a child, I begged my parents to read the same book over and over at bedtime. I vividly remember Mum sitting on the edge of my bed reading the book she soon knew off by heart (and still does!), allowing me to excitedly flip the pages as she read.

Little did I know, one day the author of my beloved book would offer me words of encouragement in my own writing journey.

Today I attended an engaging workshop by Hazel Edwards on Writing Non-Boring Family History for Young Ones, held at the amazing Public Record Office Victoria.

Thank you Hazel, for your guidance and continued support in my growth as a writer. I feel incredibly fortunate.

P.S. My favourite book? There’s a hippopotamus on our roof eating cake.

I had a wonderful weekend attending a travel writing panel session at in the Hepburn Shire. A well-worth-the-roadtrip- session! An added bonus was I scored a door prize so I have my reading material covered for the next little while 🙌

I revisited childhood memories of holidays in Daylesford—the springs don’t taste as bad as I remembered, and I was moved to discover that a family member who died on the Western Front in WWI is commemorated at the Avenue of Honour.

What a beautiful place to spend a weekend ❤️

Our long weekend at Mount Arapiles in Western Victoria was meant to be an introduction to rock climbing for our kids. Then, Miss 9 tripped at netball training and her wrist ended up in plaster.

In this piece for We Are Explorers I share the many things you can do if you too find yourself “grounded” in a rock climbing mecca. I fell in love with the area more than I expected ❤️🥾

Every now and then, you experience customer service that truly stands out—and in our case, it left us with huge smiles on our faces.

My extended family—three generations—were on flight a few weeks ago from Uluru to Melbourne. As we boarded, Donovan, the Cabin Manager playfully told my kids that one of them would be seated with “the chickens upstairs”, the other with “the goats downstairs,” while I was offered a seat next to the G&T stand 😂 His energetic and humorous safety instructions made it the first time in years I paid proper attention. Then, when we landed, he joked about waiting until the seat belt sign was off with an “on your marks, get set, go!” approach. Not a single person stood up before the seat belt sign went off. I can’t remember the last time this happened, if ever!

A highlight was my son spotting a “stowaway possum”—a very life-like puppet that Donovan carried down the aisle after meals had been served, entertaining both kids and adults.

Though we often see flight attendants as mainly focused on safety, moments like these highlight the many ways they enrich our journey. Donovan’s efforts turn a “I-don’t-want-to-go-home” flight into a memorable experience.

Kudos to Donovan (who I believe is from Melbourne crew,) for making our journey so special!

I’ve flown Jetstar Airways twice in the past four weeks and have been very impressed.

Hands up if you’ve seen Wintjiri Wiru, Uluṟu’s stunning drone show! Amazing, right? 🙋‍♀️

Well, Bruce Ramus, the creative mastermind behind this spectacular show from is about to launch Queensland’s first immersive light show at Kingfisher Resort on K’gari Island.

During my recent visit to K’gari Island, I had the privilege of sitting down with Bruce and learning how this new experience will reveal the story of how K’gari was formed in the stars and shaped by the ocean tides.

Public service announcement 🔊

When you’re in the final stages of developing web copy for a client, don’t adopt a kitten! They are WAY too distracting!

Introducing 10 week old Sophie, our newest family member from Victorian Animal Aid Trust. So far, her hobbies include standing on the keyboard, swatting my pens off the desk, and sitting on my neck.
