Purchasers are continually looking for visual clues that can place them in the home, whether it is taking note of the inclusions, assessing the views or carefully considering the fittings and fixtures in the inclusions list.

A font can have a profound effect on the people reading the words you type. The shapes in a typeface affect more than one of your senses and can easily elicit emotions, even before we read the word.⁣

Our team explores hundreds of fonts for every project because we’re obsessed with connecting brands to their audience through visual identity. Here is a collection of our top five picks of the month:⁣

– Signal Compressed⁣
Released in January 2018 in Production Type’s LAB section, it is based on a lettering style commonly painted on roads, intentionally compressed to be easier to read and one that cannot be missed. ⁣

– Favorit⁣
A sans-serif typeface designed in 2013 by Johannes Breyer and Fabian Harb of the Swiss foundry Dinamo, features distinctive tails on letters that end at the right angles. ⁣

– GT Super⁣
A result of a deep dive into display serif typefaces from the 1970s and 80s, it captures their expressive nature and translates it into a well-balanced system of text and display styles. GT Super can be found on Grilli Type.⁣

– Aeonik⁣
Available on CoType Foundry, with Modernist roots but details referencing mechanical early Grotesks, this typeface positions itself as a geometric skeleton; with proportions that are both wider than the norm but thin enough to remain balanced.⁣

– APOC⁣
A serif typeface designed by Matthieu Salvaggio and published through French foundry Blaze Type in 2018, the name, APOC, is an abbreviation of apocalypse and the typeface has been commonly used in brutalist design due to its ominous, evil appearance.

The guiding principle for getting visual identity right and how it translates on paper is about memory and impression – one that transcends beyond a digital-only format, one that creates a lasting impression of care and consideration.

As Paul Allworthy, our Senior Brand Designer puts it, “I love stationery for the same reason that I still love records and books. There’s a physical experience that comes with it that you can’t recreate digitally. It’s difficult to authentically recreate how a certain paper stock or print treatment looks, impossible to recreate what it’s like to hold it in your hands.”

Font choices matter more than you think.

A study conducted in 2006 by the Software Usability Research Laboratory (SURL) at Wichita State University looked at the personality traits people associate with different fonts. They asked participants to rate the personality of 20 fonts using 15 adjective pairs.

What they found was that while more basic font designs were considered 'stable' and 'mature', they were also considered 'unimaginative' and 'conformist'. Meanwhile, more 'youthful' and 'casual' fonts were also considered 'happy' and 'cuddly'.

Fonts matter because they affect the perception of your products and services. To the right person, they can mean everything.

After losing a close friend to su***de in 2015, Ray, Brian, and Peter Chamberlain established the Chamberlain Foundation. Today this su***de prevention and mental health charity works hard to provide funding, support and assistance to leading organisations that actively prevent the vulnerable and help them recover.

Over the years, they've supported and partnered with numerous organisations like R U OK, Griefline, Lifeline and more, helping thousands of people with their struggles. Dugan & O'Sullivan are incredibly proud to have worked and partnered with the foundation over the years in support of this wonderful cause.

It is heart-warming to see The Police Association Victoria's latest Journal celebrating the generous work of Ray Chamberlain and his team, providing hope and confidence to every life they touch.
