Videographer vs Content Creator - both approaches serve different purposes 📱

Videographers excel at:
🎥 Cinematic quality & professional polish
⏰ Long-lasting brand content
🎬 Content that stands out as premium

Content creators focus on:
📱 Blending seamlessly with your existing content
⚡ Quick, non-disruptive filming process
🤝 Content that feels authentic to your brand
📈 Easy consumption for daily engagement

We’re not trying to compete with videographers - we’re solving a different problem. Sometimes you need a masterpiece, sometimes you need content that feels like it came from you.

Our approach:
✨ Quick setup, minimal disruption
📱 Phone-based filming for authenticity
🎯 Content designed for immediate consumption
🤝 Blends with your personal posts

Need content that fits naturally into your social strategy? We can help!

Creating content solo is hard. Like, really hard.

Almost every clip in this reel was shot by my assistant/second shooter, Zara - and now that chapter has closed, I’ve had to sit with the uncomfortable reality of figuring out how to show up on camera while also being the one behind it.

But here’s what I’m doing to make it work:

Take my gimbal on-site more often - I actually do really love using it even though most people hate it.

Filming more B-roll - just me doing my job, no pressure.

Using my watch to trigger my camera again (yes, I used to do this all the time and somehow stopped ).

And being realistic - if it’s a big shoot day, I’m picking two or three behind-the-scenes shots and calling that a win. Not everything. Two or three things, done well.

Creating content as a business owner is a whole extra job. It doesn’t always feel natural, it’s not always pretty, and some days it just doesn’t happen. And that’s okay.

We’re all figuring it out as we go.

Can we just take a moment for Kellie - because honestly, woman of many talents doesn't even cover it. Add modelling to the list, legend!

Kellie and I (Sherise) already knew each other through the wedding industry, and I think that's what made this shoot feel so easy. When you already have that connection with someone, you skip the awkward warm-up phase and just... get into it. The comfort you can see in these images? That's real.

But I also have to say - Kellie came in with a clear idea of how she wanted to be presented and that made my job so much easier. That's honestly the secret to a great brand shoot. Knowing what you want, communicating it to your photographer, and trusting the process. When those things line up, the images speak for themselves. 🤍

Last night’s workshop brought up some real pain points - and honestly, I reckon a lot of you will relate.

1. Fear of being judged online.

That feeling of putting yourself out there and worrying you’ll look cringe or unqualified? It’s in your head. You don’t need perfect - you need consistent. Just start.

2. Not knowing your audience.

If you don’t know who you’re talking to, you can’t speak to them. You won’t know their pain points, their language, or what questions they’re asking. Get clear on your person first.

3. Feeling overwhelmed, then having nothing.

Ideas flood in, then disappear. That’s a systems problem. When the inspiration is flowing, you need somewhere to put it - so when motivation dips, you’ve still got content to pull from.

These were the three big ones from last night. Sound familiar? Drop your biggest social media pain point below - let’s talk about it. 👇

Tip of the week and honestly one of our favourites!

One content idea = at least 3 posts. A video, a B-roll clip, and a carousel - same message, different formats. Tweak the caption slightly for each and you've tripled your output without doing three times the work.

The video gives you the audio > The audio anchors the B-roll > The audio becomes the carousel. It just flows naturally once you start thinking this way.

Save this one - it's a game changer! 💛

Goodbye and good luck to our wonderful Zara 😭😢🥹 (adding all the emoji’s because I know it will make you cringe!)

Back in June 2023, I (Sherise) took a chance on a young photographer who had a keen eye for photography and was looking for her next move. That was Zara.

For nearly three years, she’s been my assistant, my second shooter, my sounding board - and honestly, truely helped me build was Soda Creatives is today.

When you’re a tight team of two, you spend a lot of time together. And I mean a LOT. You can get on each other’s nerves. But you figure out how to communicate. We navigate dthe whole employer/employee thing while also genuinely caring about each other and where are careers were going. It’s wasn’t always easy - but we grew through it, and I think we’re both better for it.

There is a moment in mentorship where you realise you’ve run out of things to teach someone. Not because they’re done learning - but because they’re ready to go learn from life itself. Zara is at that moment.

She’s stepping out to chase her own photography career, tick off some seriously exciting personal milestones, and build something that’s entirely hers. And I couldn’t be more proud.

Zara - you came in as a hire and you’re leave as a friend. Soda will always be part of your story. Go show the world what you’ve got!!!!!!!!!!

If you haven’t caught our stories lately - Zara is leaving Soda. 🤍. She has honestly been the backbone of our behind-the-scenes content and we’re going to miss her in that role more than words can say.

So it’s back to basics for me (Sherise). Creating a folder on my phone, capturing what I can when I can, dumping it all in and sorting through it week by week. Not glamorous, but it works - and honestly, it’s the same advice I’d give anyone starting out (or getting back into it)

Create the folder. Take the photos. Take the videos. Even if you have no idea what you’re going to do with them yet - that’s okay. Content doesn’t always start with a fully formed plan. Sometimes it’s the random clip you grab between jobs that becomes your best post.

You don’t need a perfect system to start. You just need to start. 💛
