I paid $130 for this…😡

As a brand designer for the fashion industry I am disappointed! No logo, no thought, nothing to unwrap. Nothing to show off. Nothing to remember you by? Where is the customer experience?

Here’s my somewhat unpopular opinion. When you’re building a product brand your packaging isn’t the finishing touch. It’s the marketing. It’s the moment your customer decides if they’re a one time buyer or your biggest fan. Your packaging seals the deal and is almost more important than the product itself.

People want to film an unboxing. They want to tag you. They want to keep the box on their shelf, but they can’t do that if your brand shows up like this one did.

If your product is incredible and your packaging says nothing you’re leaving your best marketing on the table. Think about the whole experience not just the product. That’s the brand world your customers actually you’re talking about.

To anyone who genuinely had this colour in their brand before it blew up, I’m sorry. You’ve basically had your identity stolen overnight.

To anyone using butter yellow because it’s trending right now STOP. Period.

Following trends in your branding doesn’t do you any favours. It shows that you aren’t original. You aren’t thinking about your audience. You aren’t thinking strategically. It shows you’re following the herd and hoping for views.

Think about what you actually need your brand to say. Think about your audience and what they want to see. (Trust me, it’s not the same colour every second post in their feed.)

Branding should be about your audience not whatever is trending this month.

Save this for some fresh colour inspo. Or send it to the next brand you see wearing butter yellow like it’s their own.
