Don't give Google the keys.

The default in most Google Ads accounts is to let the platform generate ad copy on your behalf. Every new asset Google can spin up, it will. Every new search term it can match to, it does.

With AI Max rolling out in September, that gets broader, faster, and a lot harder to spot when something is off.

You can still review and approve every new ad. We do it as a matter of course for every client account. It's a small piece of friction. It saves a lot of money.

Why this matters more than usual right now: https://vist.ly/55y7i

From September 2026:

- You won't be able to create Dynamic Search Ads in Google Ads, Editor, or the API.

- Existing DSA campaigns get migrated automatically.

- The same applies to broad-match search campaigns and campaigns using automatically created assets.

- Google's own number for the new system: around 7% more conversions at a similar cost.

- Paid ads can now appear inside the AI Overview block at the top of search results, but only if your campaigns are opted in to AI Max.

By September, your website is about to become part of your ad copy.

Whether you signed off on it or not.

Even today, before this change, we see Google generate ads from blog comments, run expired promos as headlines, and confidently advertise services that the business doesn't actually offer anymore.

That happens now. It's about to get faster and broader.

Do you know what kind of Google Ads campaigns you're running?

Most small businesses don't.

In September, Google is automatically upgrading one of the older campaign types. The catch: you might not even know if you have it.

It's worth checking this month, because what gets migrated also changes how Google writes your ads.

Stop looking at your email open rate.

It's increasingly fictional.

Apple pre-loads tracking pixels. Other email clients are following. Your "opens" include people who never read a word.

The only email metrics you can still trust: clicks and replies.

Everything else is becoming a guess.

I wrote a short piece on what to actually measure (and how to check if your emails are even reaching the inbox):

A business I work with sent over 16,000 marketing emails in a single month.

Good list. Good products. Reasonable offers.

Total sales: twelve.

Everyone looked at the copy. The subject lines. The offers.

Nobody thought to check whether the emails were actually reaching anyone's inbox.

Turns out a lot of them weren't.

Your email platform says "99% delivered."

That number is technically true. It's also hiding something.

According to the 2026 benchmark data:

Outlook sends 52% of marketing emails to spam
Yahoo: 78%
Even Gmail: 27%

"Delivered" and "reached the inbox" are two very different things.

I broke down the numbers and what they mean for your business: https://vist.ly/427jm

If you sent 16,000 marketing emails and got 12 sales, what would you check first?

The subject lines?
The offer?
The copy?

Most people would.

There's a question almost nobody thinks to ask. And the answer explains a lot of "broken" email campaigns.

I wrote about it here: https://vist.ly/4zvus

I had a conversation with a business owner last month who couldn't work out why their phone had gone quiet.

Good business. Good reputation. Plenty of repeat customers. The new enquiries had just dried up.

Their website was six years old. It didn't have dedicated service pages. It loaded slowly on mobile. Google's AI couldn't make sense of it.

We rebuilt it. Four weeks later, the phone started ringing again.

If you're not sure whether your website still cuts it, I put together five questions you can check yourself. Takes about five minutes. There's also a free speed test tool linked in the article.

Most businesses build a website and never touch it again.

It looked great when it launched. So they ticked the box and moved on.

That was three, four, maybe five years ago.

Since then, Google has changed how it finds and recommends businesses. AI now answers search queries directly. If your website isn't structured for that, a growing number of potential customers will never see you.

Not every website needs a rebuild. Some just need a tune-up. The difference depends on a few things that most business owners have never checked.
