Looking for a way to organise a K-2 bookshelf?

It’s Day 2 and I am just ecstatic that the class library looks like it did when we organised it! Some library organisation tips:
• sort the books by colour to make it easier for students to find a spot for it to go
• take close up photos of each section to hang next to the library so they can refer to it throughout the day/pack up
• if the back of the book is multicoloured, make the decision process easier for students but telling them to sort it by the colour at the top.

Counting collections Organisation for this term 💫

Counting collections is exactly what it sounds like; a structured way for students to count a collection of objects.

Students may count objects by ones or skip count by groups and once their items are organised, they record how they counted.

✨Why it matters?✨

It develops:
• 1:1 correspondence
• subitising
• cardinality (knowing that the last number said when counting is the total)
• estimating
• sharing mathematical thinking
• skip counting
• multiplicative thinking (using groups to organise their collections and finding the total)

TEACHER TIPS 🤗

7 years of teaching and I still learn a million minuscule things every year that make my a little more organised.

For me, functionality is everything. Our days become easily busy and we already have such limited time with each individual student. I can’t stress enough how important it is for me to be extremely organised so my students don’t miss out.

I’ve definitely had a few of “those days” where I sit down to work with a group of students and feel completely disheveled, unable to find something I need in that exact moment to support my students’ growth.

has said this to me and others so many times. It has really stuck with me because it’s so damn true!
