Across Perth, early in the morning, before the city wakes for the day, Salvos teams are already out on the streets building relationships and connecting with people experiencing primary homelessness ❤️

Rather than waiting for people to come to us, our assertive outreach teams take support directly to people in need, offering practical assistance such as food, warm blankets, referrals and more, to community members sleeping rough.

Community engagement hubs complement the outreach, providing a space where people can access meals, medical support, referrals and social connection.

In Subiaco, the SEAT program operates in partnership with the City of Subiaco, offering both a roving outreach service and a weekly walk-in homelessness support hub.

For years, Murray (pictured) had been living with homelessness, exposed not just to the elements, but to illness, risk and the very real emotional impact of feeling judged.

When he connected with SEAT, he had access to simple but essential things like a shower, a doctor, a meal and a safe space.

He says he has met amazing people experiencing homelessness and believes many people do not realise how close they could be to homelessness themselves — just one or two missed rent or mortgage payments away.

Today Murray has secure housing, work and is reconnected with family 🙏🏠

Please join in prayer for the Holy Father’s appeal — for an end to violence against Palestinian civilians, for the protection of every innocent life, and for renewed courage among world leaders to pursue a just and lasting peace.

May hearts be softened, hatred give way to mercy, and the path of dialogue finally prevail.

Pope Leo XIV urges the international community to work for the two-state solution in the Holy Land.

PRAY WITH THE POPE — AND LISTEN TO WHAT HE IS SAYING

This call from the Archdiocese to pray with Pope Leo is welcome. But prayer cannot be separated from the very clear concerns the Holy Father is asking the Church to confront.

Only yesterday, Pope Leo XIV appealed:

“for an end to the ongoing violence against the Palestinian civilian population in the West Bank”

and urgently called on the international community to advance “the two-state solution, for a just and lasting peace.”

Less than a month earlier, he called for a political solution founded on “the equal dignity and equal rights of every human person.”

These are not peripheral comments. They are repeated and deliberate appeals from the Pope concerning Palestine and the Holy Land.

So while Australian Catholics are rightly encouraged to “pray with the Pope,” an uncomfortable question remains: why are these particular messages from Pope Leo receiving so little attention from much of our Catholic leadership, media and commentary here in Australia?

If we are going to pray with the Pope, surely we must also be prepared to hear him — especially when what he says challenges us.

During the month of August, Pope Leo XIV invites the faithful to unite in prayer for the evangelisation of our cities. Today’s cities are places of great contrast, rich with freedom and opportunity, yet often marked by loneliness. In the midst of busy urban life, many people long for deeper meaning, but do not always find it. Let us pray that the Church may reach out with compassion to every person, bringing comfort, community and the joy of the Gospel to every corner of the city. 🙏⛪

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
