What does it actually mean to design for serendipity?
You can’t script who will meet, what they’ll talk about or where a conversation might lead.
But you can create better conditions for it to happen.
At The Community Collective’s Sydney Birthday Party, those conditions were everywhere.
All Along matched people based on shared interests and work. Live illustration and tarot gave strangers natural reasons to interact. The room brought together people already connected by community, creativity, impact and entrepreneurship.
And the result?
Conversations that moved beyond “So, what do you do?” surprisingly quickly.
For us, it was also a reminder that experience design goes far beyond what something looks like.
The people you bring together, the prompts you create, the ways you remove friction and the feeling people leave with all shape how a brand is experienced.
That’s something we think about constantly at SBL: how brand thinking carries through into the actual moments people see, hear and participate in.
A beautifully designed room is one thing.
A room that makes connection easier is another.
Thanks Paz Pisarski, The Community Collective and everyone involved in creating such a memorable night.
