Come for a walk through the streets of Yaowarat Road in Chinatown Bangkok. The 'old' part of town where its bright neon lights, footpaths full of people five or six wide, four or five lanes of traffic crawling slowly along a hundreds of street vendors selling all kinds of food.

It's the spot that makes into most social media feeds and tourist brochures but believe it or not it is a small strip that runs for a kilometre or so. Beyond this area Bangkok is a sprawling big city that is quite modern in many ways with the streets filled with bits of his roots.

Even outside the big 'western style' shopping malls are day traders who get there early for their prime spot near a crossing or the train station to get passers by. It's how the locals do their shopping or grab their lunch. They are dotted everywhere.

Yaowarat Road in Chinatown has become the tourist magnet though, so most of the visitors are from afar as the street food stalls fight for attention and the restaurant owners try and lure people in with 'safer' options.

Smells, noise, tempations and colourful bright lights surround you and its a fun assault on the senses.

See you again Phuket. Hiring a scooter & staying far from Patong gives you a chance to get a feel for what 'normal' life is like that you don't see on the influencer posts.

We took a look at Banana Beach that went viral not too long ago, but just a few minutes ride further north was the untouched Nai Thon with crystal clear water, no hawkers and less than fifty people enjoying its clean sand.

We found a cafe tucked up in the rainforest by the ocean that felt like a tree house. There was also a stunning waterfall with its man made pools that fed the swimming holes down stream and got to eat a visually stunning Pad Thai as we watched the sunlight bounce off the lush tropical leaves.

So many little places discovered that aren't really on the must see lists that created a very different travel experience. We'll be back.

The streets of Phuket, far away from the picture postcard beach scenes, the older parts of the island have Chinese, Arabian and European influences.

The old town is an eclectic mix of old and new with breakfast at a local French Bakery cafe run by locals for over 30 years then to coffee at a modern little industrial style store that would fit right in the middle of Sydney or Melbourne.

They backed it up too with a unique blend of soda, sugar, citrus with coffee to create this refreshing drink that was easy to put down quickly.

Street art, bright colours, old school shop fronts and traders ready to haggle a deal fill the roadways with character and life. Although only after about 10am or so.

By night on certain days the streets are closed off and its a street food feast for kms that draw people in from all corners of the island.

Its a nice contrast to the coastal views & adds to the character of the place.

Exploring some of the parts of Phuket that most people miss. Most people stay in Patong in the nice resorts and go on day trips. Although jumping on a scooter creates so many new experiences up in the mountains or smaller villages.

One of the most memorable driving experiences I have ever had. A weekend getting coaching in '60's style F2/F3 classic racing cars with Julien and his team from Classic Racing School and none other than Loic Depailler (son of F1 Driver) where they take you on a step by step journey to go fast, while remaining safe, and learn what it was like to drive these addictive cars that were raced more than 50 years ago.

Yes I could have paid to drive a supercar on a race track but why, to go fast in a straight line, too boring. Driving one of these machines is challenging and humbling as it looks easy from the outside.

Circuit De Charade is one of the best tracks I have driven on next to Nordschleife, Spa Francorchamps, Mount Panorama Bathurst and Phillip Island with fast parts, slow parts, blind corners, undulation and even amazing scenery - a track from a by gone era.

Even more amazing is the 'old circuit' that was left after the track was made shorter is now a public road that wraps itself around a huge mountain.

A cliche but a bucket list experience for sure.
