In 2023 Bud Light sent a can to a trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Sales fell around 30%. It lost the top-selling beer spot it had held for twenty years. Parent company AB InBev reportedly lost $27B in market value.

Beer is a label its drinkers wear. The audience didn't see it coming and read it as a sudden values shift. Remember, you might not be the audience.

In 2017 Pepsi ran an ad where Kendall Jenner ends a protest by handing a police officer a can of cola. Apparently that was the missing ingredient in resolving racial injustice in America.

Nobody in the room, apparently, said the obvious thing out loud first.

Pulled within 24 hours. Brand perception hit its lowest point in nearly a decade.

Introducing Famed Fails - a short series by us because a) why not and b) we want to showcase the hall of shame: famous campaigns that failed magnificently.

To kick things off. Yes, the classic.

In 2009 Tropicana redesigned the packaging on a $700M product.

They dropped the orange-with-a-straw you could spot from down the aisle and replaced it with a generic glass of juice.

Shoppers didn't switch brands. They couldn't find the product. Sales fell 20% in two months. The old packaging was back within six weeks.

Likes aren't the metric. Here's what TikTok and Instagram are actually scoring you on. 👆 (And the one thing most brands are completely ignoring.)

Three years in, sleeping on the pavement still puts everything into perspective.

This year, Alana Stocks raised $8,671 for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, joining 1,615 CEOs and business leaders across Australia who were willing to step outside their comfort zones to help raise awareness and funds for people experiencing homelessness.

And while the cold and the cardboard are part of the experience, what she came back talking about that was genuinely heartwarming was the people. Leaders who show up and genuinely care. Leaders who put their name, time and networks behind something that matters.

Vinnies CEO Sleepout raised over $10.3 million nationally this year. That’s what can happen when people come together with purpose and compassion.

Donations are still open if you missed it: https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/alanastocks/nsw?ref=ch_3TMFArFbzUr8qQIg07OnlDbG
