While copywriting is persuasive in text, it's different when talking to business owners/prospects in a meeting.

Speaking with clarity, correct tone of voice, listening and getting to the point without losing your composure or fumbling with your words would project capability and reliability.

These skills enable the copywriter to set the direction of the content. Many people who are new to digital marketing will think that copywriting and content writing are the same thing.

They are similar and can be used interchangeably to create awareness of a business product, brand or service.

Both can be used in marketing funnels to draw the audience's attention.
Both uses can use a form of storytelling to keep the audience captivated.
The main difference between them?
They are used for different purposes and intent.
While Content Writing is to educate, entertain and build trust in the audience,
Copywriting is used to persuade the audience to do something to get them from one point to the other.

Its similarities can be applied to nearly all areas of life. In a business context, it means making small notable changes in systems and processes.
While in fitness it can be applied to comparing your habits, diet, activities and progress on body composition weeks where you took the first step.
Kaizen can be used in learning through the progress of study and retention of topics and subjects.

It's a customer journey model divided into stages after becoming aware of a business, service or product.

These stages can be divided into 4 main points commonly used in the popular AIDA model:

ā° Awareness: The first stage is to capture the consumer’s attention and make them aware of the product/ service offered through various marketing tactics. i.e. advertising, social media or content marketing. The key is to create compelling and eye-catching content that will draw the consumer to the business.

🧐 Interest: Once the consumer’s attention is captured. The next step is to generate interest in the product or service. It’s done by highlighting the benefits or unique features/selling points of the product and what makes it better than the competition.

✨ Desire: The 3rd stage is to create a desire or want for the product/service. It’s achieved by highlighting the value proposition. Emphasise how the product can solve the consumer’s problem or meet their needs. Offers could be escalated through a sense of urgency through limited-time offers or promotions.

šŸ’Øā—Action: The final stage, where the consumer takes action in making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter or requesting more information. Done through clear call-to-action, easy-to-use purchasing options and seamless customer experience. The goal of this stage is to convert the prospect to a customer.

In copywriting the final goal is to drive the reader to take action towards the stage of the funnel. By following the 4C’s of copywriting copywriters can stroke the prospect's interest and desire in the product/service, motivating them to take the desired action.

Here are mantras that you can adopt to be a better copywriter:

ā–¶ļø Read moah copy! ā—€ļø
One of the good ways to improve is to read more copy.
Read from emails, Facebook ads, books and advertising.
Study the message it's trying to portray.
What was appealing with the message? Did it draw you in?
If it did what was the reason? Take notes.

ā–¶ļø Practice practice and practice ā—€ļø
Studies show applying what you have learned leads to better retention. This is called active learning. You’re engaging in the process by understanding the concepts but applying them to real-world situations.

ā–¶ļø Think like a copywriter ā—€ļø
Look at things around you in real life, i.e. a beautiful house with a picket fence, a t-shirt, a painting, or your favourite gadget.
What did you like about it?
Write a draft by applying the fundamentals of the hook, story and offer.
Keep in mind the concepts of the 4C’s.
Work out the details from there, and think of ways to make you feel drawn to your message.
By applying these principles you’re able to create better copy.

Readers can easily get lost in the message.
A good concept is to write like a 12 grader.
Anything more you’ll be writing for academics or best-selling novels.

Most of the time I always focused on myself…⁠
I rarely cared about anyone, ⁠
Staying in my lane and trying not to stick out too much…⁠

While this works in my previous profession …⁠
And work environments for different industries…⁠
As a computer geek. ⁠
⁠
What I have found is…⁠
My personal growth has gone stagnant…⁠
Looking back from now I have a nagging feeling that I have always lacked something…⁠
Something that I haven’t been able to overcome…⁠
⁠
Now the industry has turned…⁠
I have seen the ugly truth …⁠
Of their processes,⁠
The complexity of the business system…⁠
And treatment of people by its executives, peers and the like… ⁠
For what it has become…⁠
I have decided to walk away.⁠

Change the way I see things…⁠
And how I interact with people…⁠
