Like instant noodles and pizza, keeping up with the social media trends can offer lethargy, indigestion (of mind) and even anxiety. Sure! Updating your Facebook security settings and reading up on the Instagram Reels can offer nutritious source of information. You may even take action and make impactful shifts in your social media marketing, as a result.

However, more often than not, many people start doubting their own work, experience negative social comparisons and anxiety, often feeling increasingly exhausted and hopeless.

I believe that keeping up with the social media trends doesn’t offer enough soil for growth.

Facebook continues adjusting its business under constant scrutiny regarding the use of its tools to discriminate.

As a result, there are some changes related to how advertisers can target for Special Ad Categories.

There are non-discrimination requirements for the advertiser and System Users that you may need to address. Now! I mean it.

Yes, Facebook Business Page organic reach has been dropping for a while now.

If a 10 million followers page gets 51 likes on one of their cute photos, what chance do any of us have?

Yes, working with the Facebook algorithm has been challenging. But it isn’t a game over yet. I have been seeing many amazing organisations foster connections and relationships, build donations and create impact via the old "good" social media channels. Just not everyone.

Some things never change: loyal communities, genuine connections, ethical and valuable work – those things will continue to matter on social media.

Social media has never been a quick win or a quick fix. It's a long run! And it isn't the right tool for everyone. It never has been.

This is why my work is based on your data! We identify what works and what doesn’t, designing ethical and effective social media strategies that work for you (specifically!).

Facebook is Meta.

What does that mean to YOU, as a user, business owner, not for profit, advertiser, marketer, parent, etc?

I don’t know.

But I know THIS:

Some things never change: loyal communities, genuine connections, ethical and valuable work – those things will continue to matter during the Meta Era (I am coining this!).

I am often asked what is the best time for them to post on Facebook.

The first and most truthful answer I can give you is "I don't know". Moreover, no one does, unless they are working with you.

Facebook doesn't either. Their best time suggestions seem to be the same across most Pages I have ever worked with, recommending 2am as one of the best times to post.

That can't be right.

And it's not right.

The only way for you to know what is the best time to post on Facebook is to test and watch YOUR data.

Not some social media guru's data or event Facebook's recommendations but to find out exactly what your community is telling you.

Hey, welcome. Thank you for taking a moment to check out my page.

I am not very active here because posting on a business page is not a part of my strategy. I know this may sound a little unorthodox; however this is what I have learnt over a decade in the social media marketing business - posting on social media isn't a strategy and replicating templated secret formulas isn't social media marketing. None of that is ethical, effective or good.

I focus on my clients' data and goals, leaning into my decade long experience and expertise to help them design aligned strategies which can help them reach their community, share their message and build more donations.

When work is easy, it means you are using your natural gifts. But also when work is easy, we sometimes feel insecure: maybe we should be doing more? No!

Instead, support more meaningful work and organisations. And do heap of self care!!

I love my business because it's easy and I get to contribute towards important things in this life! Important to me! And to the goodness of this world 💚.

Easy doesn't mean I don't encounter challenges! I do! My daily work includes navigating my clients, their work, my own business while also looking within and facing self and my own fears and insecurities. All that takes place if I'm well. On the day I'm ill or tired, it all goes haywire. Such is life 🙃.

We learn how to tolerate and adjust through love. Love to self. Love of our natural gifts. And love of work we do!

Amongst other things, one of my clients had a goal of (measurably📐) expanding their reach, connecting with wider communities on social media and letting them know about all the amazing things they are doing 🙌!

I wanted that for them as well.

Over the years together we've organically added 4,000 new loyal community members (engaged following on social media).

On its own, the number may not mean much: is it many or is it not enough? We certainly need more data and some interpretation/meaning to make sense of this 🙃.

Amongst improved engagement (800% 🔺️), their page's reach jumped 1,250% since when we first started working together, with every second of third post going viral (which is a specific piece of Facebook data - message me if you'd like to know more) ⚡.

Improved page's following alone doesn't reach wider communities and bigger audiences. You need a loyal and engaged community who send your content viral to help reach more people ❤.

This is why there is no one piece of data or one templated tactic that gets you closer to your goals 🤪.

Social media technology isn't a must-have or a guarantee of success (I know, annoying!) 🙈.

Social media can be a powerful tool in helping you reach specific goals really powering your mission! The results aren't in social media gurues, million dollar secret formulas or another expensive marketing course. It's all in YOUR work (that's great news 🙌)!

We may be bruised and tired but we made it to the other side. We survived a difficult year and many of us are ready to make a difference in 2021. And difference is what we are ought to make!

We must drop down and rot rather than rise up and spin.

We have been spinning all 2020! Many lost jobs, sanity of even lives and many rediscovered selves, their strengths and passions.

Many established not for profits and for-purpose businesses rose to their highest selves, innovating and supporting like never before.

All these experiences are going to make our 2021 a different year.

Social media can help us reach wider communities, share important messages, connect deeper with those who are in need of our work and build donations and relationships. Social media can help us be our truest self or drag us down the rabbit hole of guilt, exhaustion and inadequacy. We have a choice!
