The most powerful art isn’t created when someone has everything to gain.

Oliver Tree conceptualised the idea that creativity isn’t about fitting the mould.

It’s more than that... It’s about creating your own world and having the courage to express it in your own way.

In a world obsessed with image, he believed originality mattered more and that everything we do as artists is art.

So it argues that maybe the goal shouldn’t just be ‘to be cool’

Maybe it should be to create something that could only come from you.

Champagne, Condiments and Curiosity Inside Anthony Bourdain’s Fridge

When Anthony Bourdain published Appetites: A Cookbook in 2016, a photograph of his refrigerator unexpectedly became iconic among fans. More than a look inside a celebrity chef’s kitchen, it offered a glimpse into how he actually lived.

Champagne sat beside everyday staples. Fermented ingredients shared shelf space with ordinary condiments. There was no attempt to curate a perfect image, just an honest reflection of someone who approached food with curiosity and an open mind.

For many, the fridge captured everything people admired about Bourdain: adventurous, unpretentious, and endlessly interested in the world around him.

Japanese artist Tatsumi Orimoto transformed a simple loaf of bread into one of contemporary art’s most recognisable symbols. By attaching baguettes to his head and walking through public spaces, he created The Bread Man, a performance that was equal parts humorous, strange, and thought provoking.

What began as an experiment in disrupting everyday life became a study of human behaviour and social norms. Orimoto used the absurdity of the image to spark curiosity, challenge expectations, and encourage people to see the ordinary in a different way.

Decades later, The Bread Man remains a reminder that some of the most powerful ideas can emerge from the simplest objects, and that art often begins where normality ends.
