On 28 March I signed a bit of paper, and by 1 April, it was official. My Cardigan Lane warehouse home is sold. 🔑
I’ve lived in this building since it was first converted in 1999, and looking back, the evolution has been nothing short of glorious. When we first moved in, it was just so cool—that raw, gritty New York warehouse vibe in the heart of Camperdown. 🗽🏙️
I definitely won’t miss the thousand times I had to explain to Uber Eats that while the address is Cardigan Lane, the front entrance is actually the gate on Kilner Lane... and no, we aren’t the Cardigan Lane Stanmore!! The oher end Camperdown !!
The real turning point was January 2024. The bank told me to make more money or lose my home. I took our two-bedroom unit from “Crazy Cat Code Red” to a “Chic Hotel” and started my Airbnb. I loved seeing guests from all over the world walk through into the courtyard and then into our apartment—watching that “wow” factor as they realise the space is so much bigger than the photos.
I’m so grateful to the Owners Committee and my neighbours who were pensive at first but said yes. I always made sure to meet every guest and ensure they’d care for our community home as much as I did.
My absolute life highlight? Those nights where we had our three little boys—a baby and twin toddlers—all in the Roman bath together. Just pure, splashing, special quality time. 🛁💙
I’ll miss Franks lofts community mostly Kofi, Kwasi, Lesley and Winnie. I’ll miss the “odd” neighbours—from the strange drug dealer with his Staffy bull terriers to the guy next door with heart issues. And then there was Dina, screaming and knocking on my door, terrified because there was “something” in her bathroom. I had to go in and slowly reveal what it was—a very beautiful, special green tree frog all tangled up in her hair. I managed to get him out and let him back into the wild. 🐸✨
From picking the kids up on Australia Street, after school sushi at sushi train, to the decades of Pizza Fridays (even when we weren’t at Frank’s every week!) and watching my kids grow up... thank you for the memories, Cardigan Lane.
End of an era.
Thanks
