Woohoo! Happy Birthday Creative Q!!

Today is 17 years since Creative Q was birthed. At the time, it was certainly daunting stepping out with my own business with so many uncertainties. Now looking back, I need not of worried though, because the journey has been an amazing blessing in so many, many ways. From day one I have always had more work than I can handle. Before Creative Q I had some of the very best mentors in the business, and all said the same, if you do good work and make excellence your foundation, people will notice, find you, and they will come … and they have!

Besides, who in their right mind would start a business on April 1st - April Fool’s Day? Only a crazy creative with a weirdo sense of humour would do that … and those that know me, that’s a pretty fair description of me for sure.

Apart from my sponsored and own work, I don’t post client’s finished projects. I just prefer clients to show-off their design themselves. That's their glory moments. Most people, including clients, have no idea of exactly what I do, the scope of projects and what I have done over the years. It’s all secret squirrel stuff. Lol. 😆 Let’s just say … wine labels … wine labels … and more wine labels … shiploads of them! Even before Creative Q, hundreds and hundreds of them over the years. There’s a good chance you’ve enjoyed a wine that has had one of my label designs on it. If not, you’ve been missing out. Lol. ☺️ I can assure you, all my winery clients make awesome wine.

When it’s not wine labels it’s: company branding (logos), promotionals (posters, banners, brochures), signage, books, business stationery, product packaging. Along with design & artwork, and print management, I am also an illustrator and, to top it off, super awesome nice guy 😁 (at least 99.9% of the time).

My whole career (now over 50 years), as an artist and designer, has been a constant blessing. Who else gets to wake up each day doing what they love – creating something from nothing, turning a thought or idea, no matter how simple or outlandishly crazy, into a visual experience for others to enjoy. How much fun is that!!

It’s certainly been a busy, busy time in the Creative Q studio the past year. I must apologise to those faithful followers, about my lack of updates and postings. Life in the studio seems to go from panic to panic to meet deadlines and client expectations. Certainly the norm in this business, which is kinda okay because you are used to it, but it’s hard to break the constant panic cycle.

The downside, when caught up in the busyness of work, days and months pass by ever so quickly. I will only tend to post work I do as community sponsorship or my own creations, rather than design and artworks done for clients. So even though I am extremely busy it does limit what and how often I post.

By now some of you may have seen the 2026 Tanunda Show Poster hanging about and this year’s “stars” are ... “my magpie mates”. Mom, dad and young Marley - the magpie family that drop in for a chat, and if lucky, a bite to eat almost every day. They are all such beautiful characters and worthy of their moment of fame.

Tanunda Oval has always been home to Tanunda Football Club – “home of the Magpies” with the club’s mascot being the magpie. The club I proudly played for in my teen years. So featuring the magpies is pretty apt considering the Show is held at Tanunda Oval. At first it took a bit of convincing to get mom and dad magpie to dress up in their finery for the shot, but after some food coercion, they agreed to do it. As you see, Marley was not to be left out of the vocal excitement and joined in with some beautiful harmonies of her own.

Tanunda Show, along with the other regional shows, has always given the locals the opportunity to “show-off” their best. The competition is always fierce as the locals take great pride in showing off their growing, crafting, painting, baking, and photography skills, etc. Almost every area is covered to give the locals an opportunity to shine and show-off. The photo highlights just some of the many areas the show has become renown for ... the sunflower competition, the dill gerkin competition, the grape competition, the fruit & vegetable competiton. Just a small part of many other competitive areas you can enter in. Are you ready to “show-off”? You have only 39 days to prepare!

As usual, lots of help from my good friend Photoshop, putting it all together too. As with previous show posters, the final image has ended up quite different from what I initially visualised in my mind. I love how design evolves. I hope you like it? Enjoy up large beautiful peoples. 😊

It's time to get ready Barossans!! 😁 Dust off your tinsel and decorations, put up your flashy flashy blinky lights and put up the Christmas tree ... Santa comes to Tanunda tomorrow night. This really is one of the Barossa's best fun nights for all the family. Come and enjoy the food, the parade and festivities.
