After a career spanning twenty-six years with Elders across branches including Goomeri, Murgon and Taroom, I decided it was time to take my lifetime of livestock experience and make a significant change. In August 2010, I saw an opportunity to expand and six years on and counting, I am still the Taroom franchisee for the stock and station agency, TopX Australia. From the age of sixteen until my ea
rly twenties, I worked on various properties before beginning a career in the meat industry. For six years my work included, but was not limited to, butchering, selling meat and buying cattle.When I decided to begin my career with Elders in merchandise, my experience continued to grow and so did my roles which changed various times from Livestock Agent to Manager of Elders Taroom and then to Manager of Livestock. After so many years servicing the Taroom area, my large and loyal client base supported my decision to change to the TopX Agency and have since followed me faithfully with my new business venture. I buy and sell cattle both privately in the paddock and through various saleyards in Queensland, including Roma, Dalby and the Eidsvold Saleyards, which TopX Eidsvold own. TopX Taroom stocks a large variety of merchandise including cattle pour-on, fencing equipment in the way of steel posts and barbed wire, livestock handling equipment, animal health merchandise including vaccines, tags, dips and drenches, as well as agricultural seeds and chemicals. TopX Taroom work in conjunction with Ross and Sally at Dawson River Produce who supply everything from dog food, horse feed, freshly cut chaff to various brands of jeans. I am able to serve my clients and exceed their needs when it comes to paddock sales, marketing, selling and buying cattle on AuctionsPlus and conducting clearing sales and bull sales alike with the help of the TopX Australia office girls. Come bull sale season, myself and the TopX team accompany clients buying bulls at stud sales (of which I have purchased thousands over the years). As well as purchasing bulls on my clients behalf, my TopX Taroom branch has been involved in a number of bull sales including Dangarfield Santa Gertrudis, Valorbrook Angus, Diamond H Santa Gertrudis, and the Eidsvold Charolais Sale. The great thing about changing across as a livestock agent from Elders to a smaller company like TopX is the face-to-face contact I have with clients.The TopX business model allows me to run my own business whilst being supported by the TopX Network which is a close-knit association of agents across Queensland. The TopX website is innovative and second-to-none in its progressive approach towards marketing cattle through web based and mobile technologies. All TopX Agents upload their stock listings on the TopX website which reaches a large and diverse buyer panel for little to no cost for our clients. The amount of cattle I have purchased for clients just through the stock listings other TopX Agents have put on the TopX website is phenomenal.
