The Story of Appleton Traffic Equipment Pty. Ltd
A. E. APPLETON PTY. LTD. was founded in 1910 at Sherwood in Brisbane. Kerosene lamps for household and roadside use were manufactured. As electricity replaced the need for lighting with kerosene, the product range expanded to cover basic household products such as tidy bins, letterboxes, kettles, metal wheels and fly spray pumps.
In the 1960s A. E. APPLETON merged with another Brisbane based company known as BOOSTER INDUSTRIES PTY. LTD. who manufactured road signs. The combined company focus their attention on traffic signage and developed a national market.
In the late 1970s the name changed to APPLETON TRAFFIC EQUIPMENT PTY. LTD.
Products sold by APPLETON TRAFFIC EQUIPMENT had expanded to a wide range of products with the focus being on traffic safety, products included;
